Sorry, I don't remember your dad, but that is not to say that I may not have shared a Huey or bumped into him momentarily at some time- worked with 2nd of the 8th several times. Glad he made it out OK. I have a set of Purple Heart plates for my car because the State of Colorado is kind enough to provide them at NO charge every year- has saved me a lot. I am always a lttle embarrassed at displaying them, as I had a bunch of buddys lose limbs or worse to get it + some that didn't get to see their 21st birthday!
I had the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Gen. Pace) shake my hand a couple of months ago though (really for all of us there in the Ia Drang) and it felt pretty good. Tell your Dad Hi & "Garry Owen" .....Dennis
