My gating factors are as foillows:
1. Confidence in my ability to make the shot. 2. Confidence in the bullet for the particular situation, including angle and range.
If I'm not sure I can make the shot, no shoot.
Likewise, if I'm not confident the bullet construction and retained velocity and energy are adequate to the task at hand, no shoot.
