The .458's are a hammer that ends drama. I have achieved 5 feet of penetration using the obsolete 400gn Barnes X bullets and now use 350's for alround use, 450gn TSX's for potentially dangerous situations and jump to the 550gn Woodleigh for heavy game in thick stuff.

Tried just about everything in .458 caliber in a bunch of .45/70's, .458's and the .460 Weatherby but my only disappointment was the 500gn Hornady which is no match for the Barnes offerings for bigger game. There is also a 400gn Woodleigh Weldcore that could be interesting on moose and bear though I have not used them in the US yet.
