Sad.
Look who turned them into sht holes. It is sad indeed, when all those who did all that, along with those who fled Germany before WWII, who fled Cuba while the gettin' was good, who fled Hungary in 1956, who managed to slip from eastern Europe through the Iron Curtain and other world-class chitholes , all came to America and truly appreciated what America was. Seems that as the older generations die off we lose some of that freedom loving, independent spirit. There's too many young snowflakes running around now who would gladly vote themselves into living in a communist/socialist dictatorship. I've been saying for years that there's a lot of people rolling in their graves. But every year there's more of 'em in the grave or in a nursing home where nobody listens to them. This whole country is changing; not just in the socialist states as opposed to the free states. Demographics change slowly and NY STATE, where I live was once extremely pro-2A. Not NY CITY; that toilet may as well be a foriegn country. But as the older generations die off things change. All you guys who think you live in a gun friendly state better realize that things change slowly... A tiny bit at a time. They slip a little in here and there and by the time you start realizing it, then it's too late. I'd say ask those who fled Hitler, Communism, Castro, etc. about it. They could tell you all about that sort of stuff. But all the ones I knew growing up are all busy rolling in their graves right now. Along with my dad, (U.S.N. WWII) and his dad (Canadian Machine Gun Corps WWI). And I was once a young Marine on my way to Vietnam in the spring of 1970 until Pres. Nixon announced the troop reductions. The way this country is getting (especially on 2A stuff) I hope I'm not gonna be rolling in my grave someday....... O.K....Rant over.

I don't know what any of that means either. You seem to swing and miss a lot.

Is that why your wife told us you're a lazy POS?

I just renewed my handgun permit. 70 bucks for 5 years.
No need for a "long gun permit" or BS "ammunition permit".
OP should get a Handgun permit and he can buy all the .22s he wants.

O.P. here with an update.

First, some background: All this changed in 2012 when Adam Lanza killed a bunch of kids in Sandy Hook, CT. The people were in a state of shock and grief, and the democrats rammed through this legislation as fast as they could. What's surprising, is that people that previously held hunting licenses were not grandfathered in. When the legislation first went through, not a single person in the state could buy long guns or ammo. Everyone that wanted to do so needed to wait to be approved for the certificate. Think about this. You can imagine the effect this had on retailers. There were sporting goods stores that sold a variety of things, not just long guns, that cleared their shelves of the guns and moved them into storage for a period of time!

As for moving, maybe some day. As an average citizen, I don't have the luxury of disrupting my entire life in protest of this issue. To those suggesting that I simply move, how long would it take you to pack up your things and leave your state if this sort of legislation was passed there tomorrow?

Anyway, regarding the update: Legally, I cannot purchase firearms and ammo in any state so long as I remain a resident of CT. A federal law stipulates that the gun purchasing laws of a resident apply to the resident regardless of which state he enters. A source is at the end. What's perhaps most ridiculous about all this is that I paid for a background check and fingerprinting a few months ago for a professional license. However, this is not good enough in the eyes of the state. I need to have ANOTHER background check and fingerprinting done. The fingerprints are stored electronically! They can be transferred from one computer to another. Why in the hell would I need to get another set taken?

I picked up a cheap air rifle. It will at least allow me to practice shooting. I will be contacting my state rep and inquiring about the double fingerprinting, but don't anticipate making any progress, as I've found from past experience dealing with the state over procedures that violate logic. If/when I find that the rep can't do anything, I'll probably get the certificate sooner than later, before the fees increase even more. I'll post an update when something developes.

(b) It shall be unlawful for any licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to sell or deliver—
(3) any firearm to any person who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe does not reside in (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, does not maintain a place of business in) the State in which the licensee’s place of business is located, except that this paragraph (A) shall not apply to the sale or delivery of any rifle or shotgun to a resident of a State other than a State in which the licensee’s place of business is located if the transferee meets in person with the transferor to accomplish the transfer, and the sale, delivery, and receipt fully comply with the legal conditions of sale in both such States (and any licensed manufacturer, importer or dealer shall be presumed, for purposes of this subparagraph, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, to have had actual knowledge of the State laws and published ordinances of both States), and (B) shall not apply to the loan or rental of a firearm to any person for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes;
