Mine has a Sako-esque portside release,as opposed to the pen knife insertion.
Pretty routine upgrade to the solid bottoms.

Depends on what shoots em. Rather have a Sako in 270 than a Mossberg in a 270, know what I mean? g

Assuming an elder lineage Sako,I'd side with you. Barring that,I'd pass on both.

Only Sako in the bunch is the 30 Super.
Most of the turnbolt stuff is M70 or M98.

It says Sako on it, old enough to have the s/n on the barrel and simply be marked .300 Magnum. Not saying it's a Sako M98, but it is certainly a M98 action.

It is a sweet rifle. Light, balanced, and you couldn't fit a skinny CH between the metal and wood.
It could do with a 3 pos safety. It has a safety like what I THINK would be called a Buehler(sp?).

Veddy curious. I don't know much about older Sako's, but I believe it to be intact. Maybe we have a Sako guru here that can chime in. I've shot a few of the newer ones, they seem to be of high quality with good/great accuracy, but they don't do much for me as far as "gotta have it" type impulses. One of my HS buddies has a nice 300 Wizzum in a stainless finlight, on a full length action. It is a very well shooting and put together rifle, but it probably doesn't weigh a pound less than my M70 Classic Stainless in .375.

What makes you deem it as being a '98? For conversation here's my L61R based 338Ultra.

Yes I sure do.How about those orginal Sako oldtimes? They let you go 40mm with just a speck of daylight between barrel and loopy.
