Originality waned and she ran off for an extended pout... But has returned and still has the same clue she started with... none... Though I can only tell by the very occasional quote that comes up.

It is too painful for me to read and I actually have it on ignore.

I see pu'sscoyote is flapping her gums too.

These Day Dreamers do crack me up.............
Heard it, but cannot go there. Some thigns are too pathetic to be funny.
I'll slow roll casts and keep the lures on the surface and then beat melons at my feet.

Mainly because I can and because it cracks me up.................(grin)
Hey BS--how much longer u think you're gonna last here...once again, with that childlike attitude...sir! Reminds me of an excellent quote i heard in a movie not long ago--"The days of honoring yourself will soon be at an end."

Of course once u gets yourself kicked off again, bet it'll be their fault instead of yours, ehh?

If i were in charge of this forum, and saw a post like what you put on here, i'd give u the spankings u shoulda' got long ago, but missed out on, besides getting kicked out.

If the truth be known, i believe you're one of the most despicable individuals i've ever had the pleasure of not meeting, and that will be my last word on the matter of you.
You can't even keep your pinhead above water and it is well beyond funny that you imagine aloud, that you've even a first clue.

How much Botox is in them pouty lips?..................

What have you been hunting, and let's see some pics.

Yesterday were epic, with greenwater flying over the windshield and nearly making my Ti cringe. Was shipwrecked, coupla days before that. Daybreak now and fixin' to throw rifles in the water crummy and brave another storm.

Good job sscoyote. I think the campfire would be a lot better place without this piece of work. He has nothing positive to offer anyone. He likes to attack people based on ideas he's formed from his own ignorance. He's the only one I have on ignore because I don't have time for his (BS) childish remarks. BSA.

Don't worry, I'm pretty quick to figure things out and I'm sure there are plenty of great guys here on the fire that would be "quick" to follow suit ;), bsa.

One thing for sure sugartits,is you'll always have your imagination working overtime. I get quite a kick outta the Do-Nothin' Gang and their incessant high pitched whining.

In fairness...I've seen me go and it is rather sumptin'. I'll never not get a kick outta a Window Licker being in soooooooo far over her head, that she's forced to grasp madly at straws.

The crazy part about it honestly is that the moderators have let this thread and you go on so long. Is there no justice left in this world?
Trust me, there are many people that have the same opinion. They are the ones that are affraid of this bully and say nothing. I've got him on ignore and it seems to help until someone starts quoting him. He's childish and tries to bring people down to his level. Too bad we have to put up with this type of behavior on the fire. It is a shame the moderators don't handle it better, bsa.
You are AS dumb as prescribed and I reckon that REALITY...makes you crave some help via Moderation.

Funny part is,nobody can keep your stupidity...from you.

The vast majority of my shooting has been professional, the fun has been on Sambar, Fallow, pigs and such.

Not much for pictures of dead things, but have posted a couple of commercial roo harvesting.

Tell u what A, how's about we put it to a vote? That's what should be done! Here's the way i and others see it--you're either for integrity, or BS. WHAT IS IT?

I know another with great integrity that left this forum because of this thing, whatever it is. I can't believe that u can't see that this guy's a problem here. Actually that's not true, there are those that will support this kinda' crap, or the idea of it. It's not the 1st time i've seen it in my life.

And what is this crap you're spewing about my momma holding my hand? When is the last time u saw someone on this forum stand up to this guy like me. Think i wouldn't do it in real life?
Oh and now you and your cronies are attacking the Aussie? Who or what in the H do u think u are? Trying to start a war with Australia now. U PIECE OF FRIGGIN CRAP!!!

U guys are not worth speaking to anymore.

I'd tell you to quit while you're ahead, but you've never been ahead, and it ain't a contest.
A little dab of this might also help you:

[Linked Image]

If Stick is gonna light little fires everywhere then show up every day to pour gas on 'em... which at least isn't boring, I'll give it that... perhaps Rick should set up a group buy on the stuff.... <grin>........
Nobody has picked a fight with me, on the contrary....they have all posted the pictures that I asked to see.

And truth be known....I am not adverse to picking a blue now and then myself.
I just do not see anything interesting enough to have a spat about.

Jeff.....terrific pictures, too cold for me though.
Just funny how some think they're heroically defending the kingdom, fighting dragons and all sorts of evil beings, while the king sits back and laughs his azz off.

And if I am in the right mood I shall probably play along....depends entirely on how bored I am at the time.
Reading comprehension really is fundamental, but then I wouldn't expect anything less from you. Seriously, Dumbphuck, who owns/runs/operates this board (hint, it ain't Big Stick and there's even a few clues for you in the above posts)?

Gets my vote.
Can't believe I just read this stupid thread. I must be bored.

GreatWaputi, I'll be in your area chasing Lions hopefully next week. You seeing lots of snow out there?
Not much in the way of snow in the Provo area. Weather forecasters were predicting a huge storm day before yesterday and even closed schools, offices, etc. early, but it pretty well fizzled. It's frigg'n cold though!

What part of the state are you going to be in?
Not familiar with Utah, but I have an entire central region tag I won at the mule deer foundation auction.
DIY or are you hiring a guide?

Gotta say though the first time I saw this pic, YMCA popped right into my head. Had a good chuckle to myself.

Ya'll keep posting those pictures, nice to see other parts of the world, and don't take this internet stuff so seriously. One of the best things about the fire is Rick pretty much lets us behave how we see fit. If ya don't like it, or can't handle it, well you don't have to. Just leave.

Oh ya. I was hoping for lots of snow this week, but checking the weather after your comment, it did seem to fizzle out. Damn!
You were HOPING for lots of snow.....are you mad!
You know- i had a simple epiphany last night i guess. I thought this board was started awhile back as a place for guys to hang out and talk about shooting. I didn't really know much about all the intracacies of this place. Some boards follow a general tone of goodliness and comraderie until someone steps in and turns it upside down, but usually their shot down quickly. Big Stick and his ministry dominate this board and guys have to send u a multitude of PM's to let you know this. Didn't John Barsness start this board here? I thought he did. If so i have a question for him--is this the end result of his efforts? Is this the dream that he had here? One thing's for sure i now know who's really in charge here. What a shame. I was raised to believe in certain ways of treating others and when i see that not happening then i have always stepped in and gotten some bruises and broken bones for it--all 5'5" 130 lbs. of me believe it or not, but sometimes the bully loses and that was GREAT when it happened.

One thing's for sure--definitely gonna' be great not having to read "laffin boollitt" anymore!

Forgot that before i leave here i want to go on record for saying i'm sorry for attacking Avagadro like i did. I was wrong.
laffin boollitt....who is that?

Actually, no_one's general attitude on such stuff would play well throughout this forum and all others I visit. Take it, leave it..........no real difference.

Some here (alot, actually), see themselves as the answer (whether discernable most times or not) to all questions posed or not. If answers aren't even the desired end result, then some just feel the need to disparage others as their 15 minutes of daily fame need to be stoked.......for their own reasons.

Lots of great threads and info abound here, great pics and stories of successes and of learning experiences. Much of each that we can all either learn from or relate to.

In that some members, fortunately and/or by their own choice, live in area's much more bountiful in game/fish than people and tags are given out in high #'s purely based on the depth of one's wallet and overabundance of animals, I still remain somewhat amazed and amused at some audience members remarkable capacity to deem or view the #'s of animals killed by this guy or that as some kind of extraordinary, superhuman, beyond the normal hunter's ability to do so.

Seems like when we (a few anyway) assign such lofty reputations to certain members, based seemingly more on geography, quantity and accessability alone, we not only enhance and welcome such disparaging comments from these "much more knowledgeable types" which have no problems stating the "only truths or perfect approaches" on many subjects, but by taking up such positions (most contentious, it seems), these same 1%er's must also know that they are making some members feel somehow less adequate............which I'm beginnning to think is the desired result and works very well for a chosen few, but doesn't do much for the entire membership as a whole.

A bit of a pain-killer induced response (quite literally), but these are my feelings as best I can currently describe them. Needless to say, there seems to be much less useful info (if any) from threads such as this as opposed to what might have evolved from, well...........any other thread title.

Hope you all had a great Turkey Day!

Very nice write-up magnumb. I'm sure the consensus would be in your favor. I'd also have to agree with you about the thread title. Seems the OP was just searching for a fight and found a pretty good one. I get a lot out of the campfire and am happy I joined. It is, however, a shame you have some that like to bring others down the way this joker does. BSA.

Honor? You, the internet's biggest toady wants to talk about honor. Stick to what you know Jersey Boy. (in other words keep your [bleep] mouth shut!)

And btw I posted a pic of the buck I took this year. Do a search.

It's rather humorous that the only people I've have give me guff about being a foster parent are morbidly obese, saggy titty old sows, and one manic depressive... Amazing how you fit that description too! If you want me to apologize for being a foster parent to four orphans.. well, you ain't gonna get that from me.

First you verbalize you fantasy about oral sex with men, and now talk about your dreams of diddling young men. You are a piece of work.

Keep your chins up K-She..
That's all they got, Calvin.
It would be nice to see one of these fellows in person and see if they still wanted to talk trash.

Ya'll keep posting those pictures, nice to see other parts of the world, and don't take this internet stuff so seriously. One of the best things about the fire is Rick pretty much lets us behave how we see fit. If ya don't like it, or can't handle it, well you don't have to. Just leave.

The very best violins used spruce and maple and still have never been replicated or bettered to this day...

Guitars are made from a multitude of woods and combinations there of, but maple and mahogany is a very traditional combination..

FIL used to repair and re build all manor of antique furnature but he also worked on stringed instruments and was always on the look out for quality wood that had been correctly seasoned..He had bog-oak that he had laid way for over twenty years and some teak that was even older...

Never called myself a follower. Don't recall anyone I fought side by side even hinting me a follower. Glad to see you think you can ID leaders and followers. Don't expect you could get a dog to follow you if you were packing raw meat.

Stick with what you think you know, male members and chimo talk. Hope it all works out for you.

If you mean "acoustic guitars", then I'd disagree. Aderondack (sp?) spruce is the premium spruce. It's what the old Martins used, generally, before the it pretty much ran out, for commercial purposes. You can still get it, at a huge upcharge, on very high-end acoustics like Collings or the "real" Martins or whatever.

Won't vouch for this as fact, but it's interesting so I'll pass it along. I was told by the Martin rep, over a beer, that Martin bid on, but lost, the last stand of big Aderondack spruce, back in the day. For guitar tops of course. Anyway, guess who won the bid.....? The National Matchstick Company.

Brutal.

Carry on with the pizzin' match, gents. smile

FWIW, it's Adirondack. As in, the Adirondacks of New York. And, that's not a species, or even a subspecies; merely a geographic location (albeit a very famous one).

Still don't negate simple facts.

I'm figuring the "lake" was one of the following:

Champlain,
Erie,
Huron,
Michigan,
Ontario,
Superior.
I'm simply talkin' volume and it's price.

Lil Fish,

I am admitting the big timber shcitt is pretty cool, as it seems from your slightly disturbing self portrait that you have managed to not saw into your leg with that huge saw you are toting.

That being said we still need to throw some lead down range.

I knew that spelling looked wrong.

Be that as it may, in the guitar world Adirondack spruce is a known quantity, and is generally regarded as the premium top wood. Sitka spruce is another, no doubt, but Adirondack is the chit.

The bluegrass boys love Adirondack because it's very "direct" and throaty sounding. Sitka is more shimmery. Generally speaking. Acoustic guitars are singularities, individuals, but one can make general statements IF you've literally played many hundreds of the top builder's guitars. Which I have.

Brazilian rosewood is cool stuff. Can be gorgeous to look at, and the tone (as a body wood) is awesome defined. I had a '70 Brazilian 000-28; I sold it when it became worth crazy money. Most all acoustics built with rosewood now use Indian rosewood, which isn't nearly as interesting to look at, nor typically sounds as good.

Though I do have a cherry-picked recent Martin OM-28V with Indian rosewood body that is a frikkin' cannon. smile
Only joshing you guys. But as far as building a house is concerned I'd rather use spruce over pine or fir.

Stick... You are bouncing around like a Mezzican jumping bean here, and the quality of pizzin' match entertainment you provide is slipping accordingly.

I suggest less, but more carefully-tended fires. You've got a brand to protect here.

Sitka spruce = species
Adirondack spruce = not

Which spruce from the Adirondacks are you referring to, Jeff?

Calling something, that which it ain't, don't make it something else than what it still is.

Calvin, when they taught you to never leave your buddies behind. That isn't what they meant.

Hows that hunting a 1/4 mile from the road working for you?

Which spruce from the Adirondacks are you referring to, Jeff?

Calling something, that which it ain't, don't make it something else than what it still is.

Not going down this road with you, Sean. Google up "Adirondack spruce Collings Martin guitar", you'll soon learn that it's a VERY well known item in the guitar world. As is Sitka spruce, as is German spruce. Is "German spruce" an actual species? I don't know. Is it a widely used term in the guitar world? Ayup.

Sitka spruce is good stuff, no question. One of the best. But Stick is incorrect to say it's "best".
WGAFF?..

What type of positive influence do you and BS add to the fire? Just because you live in AK doesn't mean chit to me. You need to get a life too.
I'll admit the 6 hour walk out hurt me.. Should have cut the buck in half?

FWIW, Calvin has been, and is, one of the GOOD fellas around here.

Where you start ponying up the kind of hours with kids he does, and offering out what he does, regularly, then run your trap about what he offers here or elsewhere.

As for 'Stick, I'd hazard that he's given more GOOD advice here, than you have anywhere.

Ya might want to pay attention some, prior to proving an old adage: "better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

And you know me? You are a nimrod. Just because he has thousands of posts doesn't mean he is god.
Oh look, even the wannabe alaskan dumpling gang bangers are joining the fun.

You obviously lack as much classical understanding of the language as you do insight into who is and ain't what.

And, you're right, no one here knows you.

Which is to say, you ain't done/been schit here, or proven that you have/are anywhere else.

Unlike the two you're questioning, who've the BT/DT to prove it, and the reputation here and by those known here and elsewhere to back it up.

Ball's in your court, should you wish to return service with proving that you have anything to stand on.

Have at it...
It is fun. And I haven't even begun to post pics of 2010.. It was a good year.
Calvin;

Toss up some foster kid kill pics...

Just for BullShitArtist...
I don't want to risk K-She disrespecting the kids. He seems to roll like that. They had a pretty damn good 2010 too.
Douchious Maximus, did you ever figure out who owns/runs/operates this board yet?

Also wondering if you visited family for the holidays?

I'd not think him that low-class.

Have at it.
Got a new boat in 2010.. Gonna splash it and go cruising over Christmas. Gonna hunt some hog bears in it this spring too.. If I don't trade it first.

Stick may very well offer good advice from time to time but when he denigrates every opinion other than his own how do you take him seriously?
I've never encountered someone who places so much stock in his own opinions and so little in everyone elses. Nor have I encountered anyone who feels the need to belittle other people and the way their particular geography and economics force them to hunt.
For some here hunting and shooting is an enjoyable pasttime but one which falls into insignificance when weighed against the things that REALLY matter in life.

Calvin. hows the back doing?
Calvin,

I dont like you. I think youre a ass kissing toady of the highest order.

However, I respect the fact that youre a foster parent. I have never made ANY disrespectful remarks directed at your kids. The comments that I made towards you were instigated by YOUR comment. I should have taken the high road and ignored it, but Im far from perfect. I apoligize.

Calvin and VA,

You guys are sticking up for him but he needs to understand that being the azzhole is a one way ticket to nowhere.

So he had some bad schit happen. Guess what tomorrow might bring more bad shcit and it might bring good shcit but trying to be the azzhat on every post wont change that.

He obviously has a lot of knowledge and experience but who cares if all he wants is to fight with every post??

Lil guy and his first buck.. He got to pack out the head. 2010 of course.

I've asked 'Stick questions/advice, and gotten straight answers, every time.

I've argued with him, called him an azzhole, and been insulted back.

I've been invited by him to hunt with him and his, stay at his place, at his instigation, not mine.

I've seen him offer more than advice (think goods, hand's-on assistance, etc.) to several, some he'd never met nor will meet, with no prompting.

I've laughed at his schtick, and been laughed at because of it.

All in all, you take the good with the sometimes not-so-good, roll with it, and keep going.

Other than that, it's what you make of it.

Most of that comes with time, with seeing things, and with just being around and finding out who and what folks are, and aren't.

YMMV, of course.
You got those fellas going the right direction Calvin.Good job and Congrats to the young hunters.

I to am looking forward to that Big Stick.

So far all I have met is Lil Fish.
Little guy can climb a mountain.. If I pack all his gear! Sat in the fog for a day watching a bowl after overnighting up top, hoping for wx to clear as I had a feeling a hog was home. Never did and we went home chilled to the bone. Good times..

Calvin, great pictures of the kids, damn fine job.

Seen Big Stick put a picture of a kid up a time or 3 hisself.

People getting their panties in a wad over delivery instead of context is interesting... their context must not measure a comparable retort.

I'll end with this one.. They get to use the good chit.

Sorry, I was too busy sorting through hundreds of 2010 pics. We plan to make 2011 2x as good, now that the boys are all trained up.

Yes, I've seen Mule Deer. Been to an area outside of Antelope OR more than a few times..
Thats real close to home.

Young Life camp (Big Muddy Ranch) by chance?
Washington Family Ranch. (YL) I'll be back there in June.
Cool. Pack a 5wt rod. If you have a free day I know a guy who has a drift boat and likes to float the Deschutes for redsides in June. He can be a stubborn ass some times, but hes a nice guy when you get to know him. smile Salmonflies should be out in force then.

Stick is a Alcoholic that suffers from Dwarfism no more no less. Has serious personality issues that attracts many others who suffer some of the same issues as shown here.

Stick has serious personality disorders caused from being a dwarf and that repeatedly comes out in his actions. Who knows what the little guy went through growing up at least to the height he did make it to.

He can shoot albeit in a non formal environment which in his world is all that matters. It would not be advisable to underestimate his shooting abilities in certain non formal conditions.

Blaine - good to see you back at the fire.... whistle
It'd be nice if ol' Stick didn't treat this forum like a horse he flogs for his own amusement. He's acting like a guy who's planning on getting kicked out of a bar anyway, so he's just gonna pick every fight, pinch every waitress, spill beer on every pool table, and piss in every corner until the bouncer finally tosses him.

Meanwhile other than just a few die-hard enemies, (and I'm not one), the rest of the patrons of the bar look on in bemusement at the spectacle and think: "[bleep], he seems like a hoot to have around and salty and knowledgeable to boot! Wish he'd settle down, pull up a chair, and stay a while!"

Just the view from the cheap seats...

Ever figure that's how the guy has lived life, since Day 1, taking everything on the table every day and leaving nothing left to want, if there ain't a next day?

The only folks he really frets, are those that are generally too damned uptight, and too thin-skinned in the first place.

Take a jab, give a jab, stay in good-nature and humor, and the whole thing takes on a MUCH different cast.

You could wager as heavily as you want, and do so with absolutely security, that the ONLY person who ain't laughing during a 'Stick exchange, is the one who came in with his panties already in a bunch.

If the dude makes a point, and proves you wrong on an idea, accept it. He might have been an ass for doing it in the fashion done, but it don't change the fact that he ain't wrong.

Fact is, when it comes to rifles and shooting, 'Stick's RARELY wrong, and can show the BT/DT scars to show how he got that way.

Listen to what's important, learn what's offered, move from wrong-to-right when you're obviously in the former position, and roll with the rest.

Of course, you ain't EVER figured that one out before JeffObama, so why start now?

You may or may not be describing some past version of the dude; I don't know. But you are not describing his behavior here lately.

I did, though. wink

Someone dug up an old thread the other day with some Stick posts. It was as you described. That guy doesn't seem to be home anymore though.

As an aside, I for one AM approaching him from the perspective you advocate. My correction of his spruce comment was made in that mindset. It's my default approach these days with guys like him, or you for that matter. You know, the ones who can't make a point without throwing in an insult, who can't have a reasonable debate without turning it personal, etc. I'm done getting upset over stuff on the Internet though I'll concede having let my goat get got in the past. grin

PM the dude. Tell him to chill a bit. He'd be a great and valuable person to have around, and I mean that.
After thumbing through most of this thread I can say two things.

'Stick lives in some really cool looking country.

Also he has more pics of himself with big wood than John Holmes ever thought about!

Listen to what's important, learn what's offered, move from wrong-to-right when you're obviously in the former position, and roll with the rest.

Of course, you ain't EVER figured that one out before JeffObama, so why start now?

Ah, StupidAssCharlie surfaces again.

Quick, tell us again how your Manchurian Muslim "messiah" is gonna save us all....

[bleep]' idiot.
Is Charlie an Obamite?

Good Lord.
Yep, him and JeffObama, right there with northwestalaska (aka: "Lyin'-ass Walt"), JuniorIQ42, and BrentD.
BTW - JM, it's nice to see the original avatar back.

VA,

We gotta stomp all the Obamites out.

Convert Charlie, or you will be sent to Soylent Green and they will make cookies out of ya.

I have to admit it, I didn't believe he would be back with this much vengeance, this quickly. Rick reached out and welcomed him back, would hate to see Rick have his hand get burned.

He's cruising around and pulls folks chains when he catches them talking junk.

He ain't a saint but neither are we. Hell, There wasn't this much uproar over Maser and that dude was a certifiable freak.

More like he's cruising around and is a complete douchebag unless you agree 100% with him.

Just saying there are alot worse than Stick.

Well actually Stick used to be more tactful in his assault, he seems to be pressing the offensive a little harder these days.

I sure hope you don't make such dumb assumptions when you are on the job. Stupid is as stupid does, and that was stupid. Return to Big Dick worship. That's more your style I guess.

Interesting looking at the group who vocalize their dislike of Big Stick... seen this group before.

You prove me wrong that you didn't vote for Hussein, and I'll EASILY retract that part of the statement. No qualms with that, Brent.

Agreed.
Who said I even voted stupid? See and quality candidates in that last election did ya?

What is it about you that has to run round like a 2-bit looser anyway? Is this your attempt to out dick the big guy?? Are you as short has he is? I thought so.
6'1, 190, if it matters.

And, I can't disagree with you on the lack of quality in the last election. I can't say if I've ever had the ability to vote "for" a candidate, and I'm damned sick and tired of voting against some.

The point is it ain't gonna change. St. Palin isn't gonna make it alright, she and nobody else can. As it is whomever shows up has gotta be one or the other...Dem or Repub. When they join they become bloodsuckers. Ain't none of em like us...the only time they ain't fuggin the folks is when they are asleep.

It didn't make me happy to vote against the Repub's but it needed to happen. Sometimes you have to put different lunatics in charge of the asylum for a while.

I think the best "governance" I've seen at the Federal level in my adult life has been in eras of gridlock. I'm glad we've got that again.

I sure hope the R's find their principles and their balls and field a real candidate. They'd get my vote. But they won't. It'll be some social-hotbutton-pushing farce like Palin.
You forgot legalizing drugs, prochoice of abortion and atheism... the other reason you can't vote Republican.

Of course you are progun, so that makes you a moderate.

The most profound statement BrentD has ever made. Self reflection, I presume.
And BrentD is still an out of touch bish.
Forgot the reduction of state seizure of property (taxes; Kelo-cases), 'redistribution of wealth'....

Among other "cute" notions of the left.
Both left and right are rife with dumbphuckitude.

IMHO.
That's the ONLY excuse you have left to play.

The left's dumbphuckitude, strips you of the Constitution. Fathom that, Jeff....

First the 1st (what words can't you say any longer? What groups are on SPLC's list?), then the 2nd (self-explanatory), then the 4th (why are YOU profiled out to be searched at the airport, and not Mohammed bin Sombody?), then the 5th (how many 2A 'crimes' in IL, NJ, PRK, are "strict liability" crimes)...

Of course, that'd require you pulling your head out of your ass.

Not worship, at all. Just a realization that most of what gets to folks about Larry is due to themselves, and not him.

BT/DT. And finally realized I was the one not laughing in good humor.

Those that take him too seriously, and what he's saying "negatively" too seriously, are the only one's upset.

I can guarantee he ain't taking any of this seriously, and laughing the whole time.

Look at it from a slightly different angle, Professor (said with respect, not a slight), and see if you catch the drift.

Got no bones with you Brent, as I think we've started seeing more eye-to-eye on most stuff.

I'll give you the 2nd, but if you are postulating the Republican Party as guardians of the 1st & 4th then I'm gonna spew carrot all over my iPhone here....

(had a very good crop of carrots this year, they are omnipresent, lol)
No, 'tard, I'm not saying they are guardians of anything, but go ahead and spew, as you CERTAINLY haven't a clue as to the scale backs in your Constitutionally-PROTECTED rights (not granted, as the left is so oft to say) under the left.
Apparantly you are equally blind to the constitutional assault by the "right" in the last few decades.

You're getting horned up, and I will not fight. Have your fun. wink
and this thread is in the "HUNTING OPTICS" forum.....though not sure why?
Nope, 'tard, I just know which sides ain't going for the one right reserved and protected to and for the people as a final bulwark against the power of the national gov't.

Apparently, you can't fathom that, nor much else when it comes to rights, vs. privileges.
Like BS or not he can bring the best/worst out in some people and he just sits back and laughs i'm sure. What is it about BS and JohnBurns that gets some of you guys so worked up?

Sitka Spruce trumps all in acoustics. Bt/dt.

Ask ANY builder...................

Exactly correct on every point Sean. Builders tend to use what is close to hand and available to them for a little less effort/money. To suggest a single guitar company's preference trumps the entire acoustic instrument world is funny.

Waterborne logs of Sitka spruce grown in AK made it to Europe a long time before any was cut and shipped there for the purpose and was found incredible.

It's not a "single guitar maker's" preference, Art. I didn't say that. It's the whole frikkin' industry. Look into it a bit. Martin, for instance, switched to Sitka because THAT is what was available for a little less effort/money. Not because it was the best top wood.

German, Engleman (sp), and Adirondack are all available from the top builders and are all significant upcharges, and are generally considered to be the premium top woods. That's not to say that Sitka is anything other than great; I own at least two Sitka-topped guitars and one in particular is world-class. That gets into the individuality of solid-wood acoustic instruments more than the specifics of a top wood, though.

What you'd know if you dug deep into this topic is that the different spruce's do have a characteristic tone, if averaged across a number of instruments. A perfectly reasonable statement would be, "I find Sitka spruce to be my favorite top wood". However, Stick's statement that, "Sitka Spruce trumps all in acoustics. Bt/dt. Ask ANY builder..................." is ridiculous. Try it. ASK any builder! You know what? I HAVE! I've personally talked to many of the top-end guitar builders.

Click this link. Virtually every acoustic guitar on the wall there is over $2k and many are over $4k. There are Sitka, Adirondack, German, and Engleman spruce-topped guitars there at all times. Virtually every top builder is represented on that wall at any given time. I worked there for over a decade.

You don't acknowledge the downgrade in "cuisine" served up by the last presidential election.

It went down more like this:

I'm hating these brussels sprouts, gimme a $hit sandwich instead of something better than the sprouts.

You don't acknowledge that GWB and the R's in general were a $hit sandwich, and McCain was more of the same.

It went down like this:

I'm hating this $hit sandwich, gimmee some brussel sprouts rather than another $hit sandwich. smile
But you are saying O is better.

I disagree, and I'll leave it at that.

Well, no.

I'm saying that in 2008, with the economy in shambles, GWB looking like a deer in the headlights, McCain offering more of the same while also looking like a deer in the headlights, and the R's having had a damn good chance to show what they had over the last 8 years... and given what they'd shown...

Neither choice was a "good" one. O was the least bad. IMHO. And yes, though I detest the term, to keep things quick here my position on several of the social hotbutton issues is more "liberal" than most here, and that plays into it too.

... and that's it from me, too. We can't be messing up Stick's nice thread here, now can we! grin

Against my better judgement I am going to address your idiocy...

Simply because the supply of first rate Sitka spruce is far higher than any other flavor by several orders of magnitude... That old supply and demand thing... the price of Sitka spruce is lower than other spruces, which you suddenly have found names for.

The concept of subjective judgement in wood quality is certainly there, but it includes those factors related to marketing and hype. How do you sell a more expensive wood when it is inferior? You hype it... You establish the value based on the historical use rather than the true quality relationship with the best woods.

Is there much difference between the best wood from the best species? Nope. Can more than the smallest fraction of top end luthiers tell what wood went into a piece by listening to it? Nope. Do differences created by manufacturing and seasoning methods have more to do with sound consistency than species? Yup, and by a long ways.

Once again it shows you are ridiculously gullible to anything being sold.

I am getting disgusted and fell dirty even trying to be civil, so this is the last you shall read from me. And I have friends that remain friends in spite of voting for O...

The greatest of the luthiers in history have liked Sitka spruce just fine.
As to "spruce"...

Kingdom Plantae, Division Pinophyta, Phylum Coniferophyta, Class Pinopsida, Order Pinales, Family Pinaceae, Genus Picea...

There are 6 species of Spruce in North America: Black, Colorado (with a "blue" subspecies variant), Norway, Serbian, Sitka, and White. Notice, no "Adirondack".

Worldwide, there are five major clades of Spruce:

Clade I:
Picea breweriana, Brewer's Spruce

Clade II:
Picea sitchensis, Sitka Spruce

Clade III:
Picea engelmannii, Engelmann Spruce
Picea glauca, White Spruce

Clade IV:
Picea brachytyla, Sargent's Spruce
Picea chihuahuana, Chihuahua Spruce
Picea farreri, Burmese Spruce
Picea likiangensis, Likiang Spruce
Picea martinezii, Martinez Spruce
Picea maximowiczii, Maximowicz Spruce
Picea morrisonicola, Yushan Spruce
Picea neoveitchii, Veitch's Spruce
Picea orientalis, Caucasian Spruce or Oriental Spruce
Picea purpurea, Purple Spruce
Picea schrenkiana, Schrenk's Spruce
Picea smithiana, Morinda Spruce
Picea spinulosa, Sikkim Spruce
Picea torano, Tiger-tail Spruce
Picea wilsonii, Wilson's Spruce

Clade V:
Picea abies, Norway Spruce
Picea alcoquiana, ("P. bicolor") Alcock's Spruce
Picea alpestris, Norway Spruce, Alpine Spruce
Picea asperata, Dragon Spruce
Picea crassifolia
Picea glehnii, Glehn's Spruce
Picea jezoensis, Jezo Spruce
Picea koraiensis, Korean Spruce
Picea koyamae, Koyama's Spruce
Picea mariana, Black Spruce
Picea meyeri, Meyer's Spruce
Picea obovata, Siberian Spruce
Picea omorika, Serbian Spruce
Picea pungens, Blue Spruce or Colorado Spruce
Picea retroflexa
Picea rubens Red Spruce

Still haven't seen an "Adirondack Spruce" ... nor a "German Spruce"...

Engelmann's, yep. Sitka, yep... Adirondack or German? Um, nope.

Sitka, it is truly a pleasure to watch you work.

Regards.
Lots of arguments about what constitutes a species, especially in a plant as prone to hybridizing as spruce... But everyone considers P. engelmannii a species and it grows throughout the western US. That would be at least 7...

Brewer spruce is from CA... Red spruce is from the Adirondacks and undoubtedly what someone confused might call Adirondack spruce. Chihuahua is from Mexico, while NA, it is not US... That is at least 10 in NA. wink

Problem with the 'dacks for red spruce is th efact it has been essentially logged off in every available place. There is no supply of old trees. Anyone suggesting a good spruce hundreds of years old has to worry about the quality of wood from a tree less than a century old is either smoking something or an Obama sucker... likely both...

I am a little surprised by the cladisitic separation of II and III as it would have been a lump to my way of looking at them from my memory of their specifics from 30 years ago, as well as their tendencies to produce viable hybrids. Don't really matter though Global Warming is gonna burn us all up next summer !!

From http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/guitars/acoustic/buying-guide.php#2

Red spruce is relatively heavy, has a high velocity of sound, and the highest stiffness across and along the grain of all the top woods. Like Sitka, is has a strong fundamental, but also a more complex overtone content. Tops produce the highest volume, yet they also have a rich fullness of tone that retains clarity at all dynamic levels. In short, red spruce may well be the Holy Grail of top woods for acoustic steel-string guitars.

You can find a lot more such statements in critiques of guitars and from the Martin videos on youtube.

For those worried about sustainable guitars, there is always the Martin Dreadnought.

That would be Red Spruce, not "Adirondack spruce".
Yes, specifically Red Spruce from the Adirondacks which would make it Adirondack spruce just like VAnimrod's car is junk. It also happens to be a Chevy.
They make fiddles out of chevrolets' Brent?
Actually, I drive a Ford. My wife drives a Toyota. And, there's a '78 CJ-7 for play...

Wrong, again.

"Adirondack" make be a colloquial name for Red Spruce, just like coy-dog might be a colloquial name for a coyote in that part of the world, too. That doesn't make it right, nor accurate.

I'm trying to understand this.

Do the cars grow in the Adirondacks? Is there something up there that makes them more suitable for use as an instrument vs. a chevy built in Canada?

So the intellectually dishonest returns playing the same card...

As I pointed out previously, marketing is best done with hype. Using a marketing site in the same tone as a peer reviewed study is a classic Kool-Aid poisoning symptom.

Arguments in no particular order, just as they pop to mind...

1) Who did the testing to determine P. rubens is mechanically different from P. sitchensis? And which examples did they use? There is tremendous mechanical variety in specimens from trees grown in the same area. There is tremendous overlap between spruce species. There is a vast difference in mechanical properties based on the wood moisture content at time of testing... Who did their peer review?

2) Simply because a marketing site calls something the grail, does not make it so. When the marketing site equivocates should that be a sign?

3) How many hear the differences in the actual wood prior to assembly? Obviously the assembly makes a tremendous difference in the acoustical properties of the sound board. But so does the final thickness and shape of the board.

4) Age makes a huge difference in wood quality in a number of ways. It affects mechanical properties and they in turn affect sound. Compare the fact P. sitchensis can be had from trees many hundreds of years old... P. rubens, perhaps a hundred years...

5) Any of the top top woods will make an incredible guitar as I said earlier. To suggest any is better because of small mechanical differences in gross tests is not very scientific...

Sorry, got bored...

JM,
The Mississippi side of you is coming out again. Try to keep up -- the cars used for musical instruments are Fords made in Canada. They are used to make the Fender guitars. Please don't confuse that with the Oriental vehicle style guitars which are Yamahas. Got it? Ya'all really need to stay out of the likker jar.

No problem Art, I'll let you figure it all out. YOu being so astute about the conspiracies in the music world.

Talk about intellectually dishonest. You take the cake. You know the answers.
No one said anything about conspiracy.

"Talk about intellectually dishonest. You take the cake. You know the answers."

A critical review of what I wrote would show the exact opposite. I can provide cited references to everything I wrote which would pass any legitimate review. "Adirondack" spruce is not available generally in the quality of Sitka spruce because of the extreme difference in quantity and age.

Just as you knew damn well Palin's interview had been edited severely before you used it repeatedly in an argument, you are now using emotions and hype in an argument.

I am simply saying the argument is far closer to moot and beyond all but the tiniest fraction of the listening world. There are far too many variables to get very excited about the minute differences.

Miss Treated's cousin was involved in a project which built an acoustic testing device designed to maximize sound resolution in any space. Part of their project involved testing the stereo experts to see how well they heard. Want to guess how well the "experts" did? Or how much they agreed on?

Saw a guy on TV taste water samples and then correctly identify all 5 by Great Lake of origin. The discrimination required to taste them is likely not far from the discrimination required to hear the difference in sound board woods in a completed guitar.

And then there is subjective taste...
I love how you hold a thought. And, yep, it was edited, and, yep, she's still an idiot unless specifically coached. She ain't a thinker. Don't confuse yourself over that issue.

Meanwhile, you know damn well, Red Spruce from the Adirondacks is the most sought after guitar top in the business. You know, and more importantly, Martin knows it.

Sitka spruce is a nice runner up, but thats what it is, first looser.
"looser" ???

Too funny!

Do you teach in absolutes, too?

You are going to let Martin Guitars make all the decisions for the entire acoustic instrument world? Even if they are just opinions? Even if red spruce from the Adirondacks is the best for Martin guitar tops, does that make it best for every style guitar? And from every maker? Do you expect Martin to advertise their guitars as having pulpwood tops? Or to hype something tough to come by? You really have to be kidding...

I wonder what the best Cremona fiddle makers use and call best... hmmm... care to guess?

As to Sarah, you knowingly used her performance on a severly edited interview tape to smear her. You absolutely knew it was not a true rendition of how she had done, clearly exposing your contempt for her. That is intellectual dishonesty any way you look at it. And you maintained the point after being called on it... That is special.
Art et al,

I would encourage you to dealve a little deeper into the world of guitars before saying that Sitka is best because it's used the most. It just ain't so. As I've already explained, Sitka is what most everyone who makes any real quantity of guitars uses because they HAVE to. It's what's available. A very similar thing happened with Brazilian vs. Indian Rosewood, and for that matter there are several variations of mohagony that have come into and out of broad use due to supply constraints.

Take a look at the Collings, Santa Cruz, Dana Bourgoise, Taylor, and Martin websites, in particular the sections pertaining to their very top end stuff. There, or on the many forums where guitar nerds talk about this stuff and no doubt fight and argue just like we do here over cartridges and whatnot, you will find descriptions and de-facto "rankings" of the spruce top woods. Sitka will rarely top the list.

In the guitar world one runs into tops made of Sitka, German, Engleman, and Adirondack spruce. I can't tell you the Latin name for what spruce is what, because in the industry we don't go there. Obviously at least a couple of those are industry-specific names but hey, that's what we call 'em. Do you own research and see.

I can tell you Sitka isn't considered the top spruce, by builders or the tone mafia guys either <grin>.

Interestingly, the overall design of a guitar can tilt things towards one top wood or the other, such that Sitka might indeed be the "best" top wood on a given design. How the top is braced and tensioned plays into this. An extreme example of how much the top matters, would be Taylor guitars circa mid-90's. They tended towards harshness and brittleness (some would say "clarity") to the point that I actually preferred a CEDAR top on that design. On the other hand, a more euphonic guitar design like the Martin, which tend to be a lush, chimey guitar (talking "normal models here) can be muddy with a cedar top. And yes I've played cedar-topped dreadnaught Martins. wink

At any rate, Sitka is a fine, fine tonewood. It's what's on my OM-28V and I'd put that guitar against ANY 000-sized long scale guitar in the world, regardless of price. It's a monster.

But that's not really the point. The point is Big Stick declared Sitka to be the best, said all the top builders agree, etc. That's just not so. Since he's so into bustin' balls when he sees what he perceives as someone speaking over their pay grade I thought he at least deserved a polite correction. wink

Guitar woods and tone are things I am very intimate with, and not as a hobbyist. It was my livelyhood. There was a time not so long ago I was one of the, I dunno, top 25 or top 50 most knowledeable people on the west coast about the minutia of high-end acoustic guitar tones from the top builders, across their models, with the various wood combos. This was because I worked for too many years at one of the premier boutique high-end guitar shops on the west coast and, in the interest of banking 4% commissions on $2k- $15k or MORE guitars, it behooves one to play them... go to lunch with the reps and builders when they are in town, buy and own them yourself, and play them play them play them. And I did. Every day. One right after the other. Same exact model of Collings but one is Sitka, the other Adirondack. One has Brazilian rosewood, one Indian. Etc etc etc day after [bleep] day until you are so sick of hi-end guitars and gacking about stupid chit (like top woods, lol) that you want to puke <g>.

If you or VA really care to learn more, some quick googling will give the broad picture. I'm sure there's someone out there declaring Sitka best but the broad consensus is otherwise.

JeffObama;

I know absolutely nothing about guitars. Don't ever pretend to.

What I do know, is a bit more about forestry and trees than you care to fathom.

And, that's what I'm hitting you on.

Now, if you want to cite "Adirondack" as a specific, legitimate species of spruce, then so be it.

Otherwise, you remain ignorant and erroneous.

As you do with more things in your life...
In the industry which Stick was addressing, which is to say the acoustic guitar industry, the term has all the meaning in the world. I suspect it'd be a trivial matter to google up the Latin name for you right now on my phone, but it wouldn't change a thing in terms of the point I've made, and that you are trying to obfuscate. wink

You are being deliberately obtuse, and can't seem to manage a simple polite debate without interjecting personal jabs. I see it was a mistake to try to interact with you. My bad.
Have to tell you V, I would not care to debate Jeff on this subject as he seems to know his bickies from bread about guitars.

Not all soundboards get used on guitars...
Not all luthiers agree on what sound qualities are best...
Not all wood from a given species and source will test the same, not even from the same tree... And there are huge overlaps in mechanical properties.
Few "experts" pass any tests of consistency of sound discrimination when tested against proper meters.

There is more bullscat in guitar making than the average Kansas feedlot.
I shall take your word for it as it is a subject I know jack about.

Agreed, mostly. Though to the last point- the bullscatters can fool the audience and wannabe's, but not the players. Good players hear stuff like a blind man. smile

The mechanical inconsistancy is a good point. The good low-volume builders- like say a good brewer- have an intuitive and/or scientific grasp of how the ingrediants of a guitar go together and can produce amazingly consistant product even given the vagaries of the materials. Archtop builders, some of them, get downright religious about how they voice a top.... grains of sand vibrating on the top show them where to leave it thick, or sand it thinner...

A company like Martin, though, isn't doing all THAT with anything short of their uber-custom stuff... so you'll hear the mechanical difference in whatever woods they use, play out as a less consistant product. There's an upside to that, which is that they, almost by accident, make the occassional amazing guitar even in their more pedestrian models! Things just went together right... there really is truth in the idea of choosing a guitar by playing a bunch and finding the "right" one.

I have a late 40's Epiphone Broadway archtop that has a top like a cello. Just gorgeous wood. I have no idea what spruce they were using. Something good.

As to experts not being able to hear differences, that's quite true in the audio world. Audio, perhaps more so even than optics, is full of people hearing what they want to hear. I always felt like on a karmic level, part of my job was helping people actually hear an instrument- not just validate whatever advertising jargon the company had managed to implant in them!

As for myself, I could no more pick a random acoustic guitar up right now and proclaim (from sound only) what spruce it was made of than i could tell you what brand of scope I was looking through in a blind test. What I COULD do, then, was easily hear and help someoneone else hear the differences in top woods from one of the consistant builders, like Collings or Santa Cruz. Those, I could tell by sound and feel (some guitars feel tighter, etc) what spruce had been used... usually. Lol. That was because the product was built so consistantly that it made that possible. Like tasting a pinch of cinnoman in a Sierra Nevada...

There are also color differences, but that gets tricky because of tinted or aged finishes and so on. But Adirondock doesn't look like Engleman if untinted.

Here's a fun one. Martin switched from Brazilian rosewood to Indian in 1970... but it wasn't that clean; there were still Brazilian blanks kicking around, and a "few" Martins were made with Brazilian in 1970, particularly some smaller body guitars. But the thing is, time has been kind to Brazilian RW guitars- they are worth crazy money. And Martin kept no records of what was or wasn't in 1970.... so it's all on the visual ID of the wood by an expert, and a lot of money rides on the balance. I was such an expert, and stroked checks accordingly..... In some cases it's very obvious, as Brazilian has some very distinctive grain patterns that occur... usually. I did end owning a somewhat debateably-Brazillian 000 for a couple years (it wasn't blatantly obvious) until it became more widely understood that SOME Martin's from '70 were Brazillian.. at which point my investment matured and I did great selling it.

Brazilian rosewood, by the way, sounds different on average than Indian.... another thing you can hear if you are genuinly familiar with a brand and model.

Lol. Guitar gack....

No, I save it just for you. I get a kick out of watching the pot call the kettle black.

and I'm always going to take Martin over you when it comes to opinions on wood for guitars. I'll do that every single time, even though you are the most well renowned guitar expert in the entire universe. But they are just one example of a well respected group that disagrees with you, so feel free to generalize to the rest of the planet - at least.

As for Sarah, you got it bad, don't ya? There is no antibiotic that can cure that. And you still maintain you are independent thinker - even after being called on it. Well, you are entertaining, in a pitbull sort of way.. smile
The minute they show me the guy that can positively determine species simply by sound in a finished guitar is the minute I will agree with Martin. The only tests I have read screamed hype...

And that would mean I was willing to cede the rest of the acoustics world, just to give you a chance.

As I have said repeatedly, Sarah is not my favorite, and not by a long shot. I simply detest the intellectual dishonesty in using the false interview repeatedly.
You brought her up - obviously you are more attached to her than you realize. Pretty funny if you ask me. Sort of like high school puppy love.

Don't worry about the guitar thing - I knew you were just looking for an excuse to argue and drag Sarah back to the front burner. That's okay with me smile

So, hang in there pot...
I propose the winner of this internet argument wins an award giving a schit about nothing whistle
Yup. Pretty much.

Ain't it amazing what people will watch on the inet?
Lol... NHK9 said it well: "Play a stupid game, win a stupid prize!"

Believe me, I ain't putting it forth that being an expert on guitars means chit in this world... that and three bucks, will barely buy a latte at Starbucks.... grin... But, as it turns out, it is something I was deeply immersed in for a looong time. Factor in running a commercial recording studio and I ate, breathed, and pooped guitars and amps and mics and brands of reel-to-real tape and this noise reduction sounding different than that one and hi-end mic preamps and tubes vs. transistors and on and on and on.... bleah.... there's a joke about a gynecologist getting sick of puzzy in there, somewhere, except it's not funny to me because I've kind of lost my passion for guitar in the process...

It's just humorous to catch Stick making the kind of broad, over-reaching generalization that he loves to beat on others for. In the spirit of welcoming him back around the Campfire, a gentle correction was in order. Lol.
You "won" the 7-08 vs 308 argument, but could not get the load out of him and now you are beating his wood.

Impressive.

You mean you can't??

How about smell? Surely by smell you can tell them all apart and probably that they are old growth or second cut....

Lol... that's a good one, if a bit.... homersexual... must be those long, cold dark winters up there..... grin

I'm quite certain there are people who could ID different spruces by smell. The nose is an amazing thing. New guitars have a very woody smell (on the inside) though it's clouded by the finish...

The stiffness of the top is tangible too. I'm not sure how to articulate it, but if you are surrounded by the [bleep] things, you notice it. I honestly don't remember which of the spruces are stiffer though.

I could ID the various woods in my woodlot by smell because I've been cutting them for 20 years. Oak smells different than ash smells different than willow and chitum and fir and cedar and pine......

The inside of an older fir, smells different than the inside of a young fir.

The inside of many trees I cut smell different at different times of the year too.

Brad, that's the way to do it.

Heck, that's the way to buy an ELECTRIC guitar... and they are obviously much less influenced by materials, you'd think. The '83 Strat I have now, I waited years for, then one day it came into the shop and I played like 30 seconds on it and it was like, yep, that's the one. My Tele was similar.

It's a hard concept to get through to many people, though, because this is the era of uniform, identical Commodities.
Jeff,
If you have such a passion for acoustic instruments, I wouldn't throw around builders like Santa Cruz to back up your arguments. Neither would I name-drop Martin. Collings is fine, but not what should be considered the epitomy of the industry. There are much better and more highly sought after makers.
Martin makes some fantastic guitars. Just not most of 'em <g>. Their very top-end stuff is killer.., or at least it was 10 years ago.

I actually prefer a good Santa Cruz to a Collings, myself, but SC guitars are less consistant. Or were. I have no idea what's happening right now. But the Collings tone is a bit dry to my ear. I like character.

We weren't a dealer for any of the very low-volume, high-end boutique stuff, except perhaps Burgoise, and they were in a state of flux at the time. You are correct that there are some small, very spendy builders and I'm honestly not real up to speed on them. I did get to play single items from about everybody when they'd come in on trades... to be honest, I often came away underwhelmed. I'd hear all about so-and-so for years then finally get to try one and it'd not live up to the hype... usually.

Actually, speaking of woods, the small-volume guys are guilty of putting together some wacky combos that seemed to ME to be more about visual aesthetics and "cool" factor, than tone. But then, my ear is biased towards "traditional" guitar tones and woods. Not real into flamed Koa tops and wenge this and maple necks or backs and so on. Gimmee rosewood and spruce with a mohagony neck, and I'm happy <grin>.

I kick myself for not coming out of that era with a SC Baritone guitar. Ever play one of those bad boys?

And finally, I'm not arguing... just making conversation here.

mahogany...
Mahogany is great for dark tones. Bright tones call for maple or spruce. Best guitars and makers on the market, and have ever been on the market, have always been those archtop acoustic jazzbox guys. For years it was Gibson's L4 and L5's that Lloyd Loar was the innovator of. Later it became the domain of firms like D'Angelinco, Benedetto, etc... Martin is to the acoustic guitar market like Dakota is to the rifle market. They make something a bit better in aestethics and to a certain performer than was generally offered by cheaper lines, but were not the real customs and better builders.

Some of the one man shop archtop acoustic guitars can run into the hundreds of thousands for a single instrument without too much tack. Braz Rosewood is typically only used for fretboards, especially now since it is a CITES species and extremely hard to get.

No flattop acoustic will ever compare in tone or volume without amplification to the archtops.

The best grade Sitka Spruce is comparable or better, as is known in the industry, than any of the red spruce or Englemann...

Best tone woods are typically reserved orchestra players, not guitar shops, anyway. Violins, Cellos, etc usually end up with the best of the best woods. Not everyday instruments, but those built for professionals.
[bleep] this is boring.
It is. Stick has more practical experience than any of his detractors here. When someone questions his professionalism, he hurts people's feelers. It's a rough life. But, so it is. Some folks experiences are different than mine and I care not.

Lot's of folks here have lot's of different experiences, and no one will ever agree on much of anything. Hangers on and theoriests will profound knowledge of reading and repeating what they've heard. Until it gets proven, those that do - will, those that haven't or won't - will theorize. Those that have repeatable experience can, and will, argue till the cows come home. Keith and O'Connor proved that.

Yep! Agree with all of that.

You'd like my '49 Epi archtop. It's a straight acoustic- no pickup- archtop with solid spruce top and solid maple sides and back. Some flame in the maple. A fair amount of inlay. It an absolute cannon, as you say, though the tone is not as refined as say a D'Angelico, it's got more bark and sounds fantastic with medium gauge acoustic half-rounds.

This was built, of course, almost 20 years before Gibson bought Epiphone. They were competitors at that time.

I've played a few D'Angelicos and for that matter, a Loar mandolin and several Loar-era guitars. That guy "knew things". smile

The owner of the shop had an amazing collection, probably even better now. Numerous pre-war Martins. D45's worth six figures. D'Angelico and that other dude who worked with him who's name escapes me right now.... couple '59 Les Pauls... Early 50's Tele's, Strat from all eras. Get this- a Bigsby archtop! On and on.

Basically if it was cool, REALLY cool, at least by his definition- Bob had it. Got to play all that stuff at one point or another. Some were great instruments, some just valuable instruments...

Bullschit Dave!!! I read different in the Martin website! I mean, what do you know? How can it be that marketing hype could be wrong? Next thing you know they will accuse you of thinking there is a sound wood conspiracy.

Doesn't it feel good not guessing?
art laughing
A conspiracy in the sound wood industry! Now we are getting somewhere! grin

No offense meant by the earlier comment, but there is really no entertainment value in posts made based on knowledge and experience.
wink
Although it is informative.

My experience with guitars is limited. When I was a chap, I filled the inside of mine up with tree frogs and accidently forgot they were in there.

Mom and dad had to fumigate the house. However, it did produce a better sound after the frogs had decomposed.

JM
My experience with guitars is that they are the 2nd-most fun you can have, legally, without risking breaking your neck or brain.

At least, drawing from the panalopy of crazy-fun stuff I've done in my life.

The 1st-most ranking is reserved for... well, you know... hopefully <g>... and NO Ingwe and JM, it does not involve sheep for Cristsakes!!
Wrong again, Jeff.

Darts is the second most fun you can have indoors! smile
"Again"? What is this "again" bidness of which you speak?

Darts? Really? REALLY?!
Really.

So who's guessing here?

There is no doubt that Sitka is one of the finest tonewoods known to man. It's awesome.

But it's not "best" across the board (har har, no pun) nor do all builders agree that it's best, as Stick asserted.

That's all.

Hey, most of the truly killer guitars I've ever played have been Sitka-topped. That's due to the sheer number of the fookin' things out there. But- here's the thing- the other spruces have a different sound, on average, across a number of instruments. And some players might prefer that other sound.

The bluegrass guys get big woody's (har har) over Adirondack for instance. It's got a directness to it that works well in a bluegrass jam... which is sort of the pissing match of the guitar world, lol.... (volume rules)...

So, is that the same as an objective "best"?
You guys really have it bad up there, Mike! eek
Not really. Preference is different than "best", yes?
I usually do not reply to this kind of BS but I can say,I would bet a weeks wages there not 1 of the posters here that could last one week on the landing, where a guy first starts(the easy chit),let alone falling timber in the ground Stick does and not get fired or killed.

Trash talk is just that...oops

Never not entertaining,to allow them that think they've a clue, the bandwidth to prove they don't....................(grin)

If I showed up at the "landing" for work would this guy be my foreman?

You'd do what he said, try and fail and be along your sorry way.

But it'd be funny, start to finish.....................
Tsk-tsk, you can't be serious. Take orders from what looks like a "don't ask, don't tell" pin up. Can I get transfered to another crew?
I imagine Burger King is hiring and that's all the mustard you could muster.

What do you do for a living again?!!?

Laffin'!.................
Nice to have you back, Stick.

The thread was missing that certain "something" without ya! Lol.
Good to see all you Do-Nothin' Dreamers in a single sack,so a guy knows where to look for laughs.

Obliged for the humor and that you is you.

Laffin'..................
Now calm down there. I understand your need to show pictures of your vocation to help you work thru your shortcomings. It was also healthy and good thearpy to post the above picture to let the campfire know that you are out of the closet.

The campfire is inclusive and we are here for you. grin
I'll concur that this thread is a good place to look for laughs, particularly if one is wired so as to find irony funny. wink

What's funny is how some people do not pass "go" and go directly to "homo".

You know who you are....................
I just want tickets to the shootin/pizzin match. Heck, if given a means to travel I'd belly up to the bench against Larry. Long as we keep it @ 100yds. LR aint my thing yet. But can hold my own at the century mark. grin
You got to call them like you see'em. Expect anything less would be a travesty. If you have no expectations, you will not be disappointed. smile

Nothing is funny and that is why there are damned few funnier than you.

Though while of course, someone will have to explain the pun to you...it do add to the humor........................
Pun?
What the heck were you doing walking around in the timber without your pants on? Looking for the other Larry - Larry Craig? I am thinking you darn near topped the picture of Maser with nothing on but a diaper.

Trash talking and flooding the internet with pictures of your vocation and yourself without your pants on to exhibit your so called manliness is pathetic at best. Rather demeaning.

No, this time you are wrong Stick....you have come off sounding like a has-been halfwit desperately attempting to keep up.

Roundoak has been all over you, and frankly....I expected classier and pithier comebacks from you, instead of the lacklustre drivel you oozed.

Are you crook?
It would appear the Big Stick franchise's quality has slipped, and we are now witnessing a new product: "speak loudly, but carry a Little Stick!". smile

Congratulations?...............

Though I've preferred the competition's product- "express your knowledge in a reasonably civil manner"- the Big Stick brand does have a lot to offer the marketplace. Here's hoping they get the issues figured out and fixed. Lol.

You'll have to go elsewhere for a hug,but you really should zip the yap and take notes.

It'll improve your game on a non-lineal scale, compared to your "results".

Just sayin'.......................
You guys have lost it or something.... Gun's, hunting, shooting, and reloading is a ton more fun than this.

Sigh....Stick, if that is all you can come up with then you are no longer interesting.

Good-bye.
Sorta reminds me of one of those boxers who comes out of retirement and ends up taking so many shots to the head that you start to feel sorry for them and wish they'd just quit while they still have an ounce of dignity.

So what! ...... Most of us here hold jobs that the others aren't trained to do.

I hold an RTII licence (industrial radiographer) as well as a few other inspection tickets. I work nuclear, heavy industry, refineries, P&P mills, fab shops, power plants, crane shops, structural, etc, etc. I've done this work across Canada and into the States. I gross over $100k/yr. I'm thinkin there are very few here that can do that work. All this doesn't make me any more (or less) awesome then the next guy, esp the one running the chainsaw.

Probably, and since new love is such a beautiful thing....lets not spoil it for him.

Stick had better not bend over in the next pic.

My Grand father owned several logging outfits and 2 saw mills. Logged from barges on the Mississippi River.

I can tell you that men who tote a saw for a living, up and down hills all day, day in and day out are some tough SOB's.

One day, I pulled up to my Grand dad's house and he was giving a guy directions, he was pointing with one hand here and there....all the while holding a car battery in his hand.
What is your point John?
Not every dude can do that kind of work.

I did it in the summers and it was tough as anything I've ever done. That includes Airborne, Air assault and Ranger Rip school.

Having some experience with that kind of work, I know first hand how physically demanding it is.

I don't see much wrong with taking pride in the fact that you are able to tackle a job that most can't.

JM

So....that pertains to what?
figure it out and get back with me.

This site is full of hard working people,
Concrete workers, Roofers, Steel workers,Plumbers, Block layers,Bricklayers,Carpenters, etc.....

None of them bring up their "vocation" on a daily, or even yearly basis..

Thank you for the invitation.

Okay, here goes....

You have father figure issues and have succeeded in transposing said issues upon someone who lives nowhere near you and has nothing in common with you.....in fact, the only common ground you share is that he works in an industry that you yourself spent a very short time in, the same industry that coincidently, your grandfather was employed in.

Your issues are so far gone that you are willing to come to his rescue even when he has not asked for such, and also are ready to believe any and all that said father figure says.

Or did you just like the shirt pic?
Heh, what Stick lacks in eloquence he certainly makes up for in mischief.
Man you are good....

Have a dad who is a great fella and served in the USMC and fought in Korea, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. So I ain't in the market for another.

I work for John Deere's Forestry Division, have for many years, so I am still in that industry... that's 0-2.

Stick needs no rescuing from an ankle biter of your likes, However, it is fun to pull your chain, as the reaction is always predictable.

Oh great Roo shooter...
Heh heh, now we are talking....good to have you back!
And that would be EX great roo shooter, now a "lowly drive trucks interstate, shear sheep and do anything else with-in reason to feed my family" sort of a fellow.

I personally am waiting for Stick to post some more pictures of the country he works in.

Kind of the way I see it. Let's just say low self esteem is not one of his weaknesses. smile
In fact, I am so damn great that I am going to be out in the hot January sun bent over picking melons for a quid.

Just so I can feed my family and pay my bills.
Stick is good to have around. He keeps it interesting.

His hunting experience and mine are completely opposite. He and others on here get to hunt species I'll never see.

Nice to learn about how it's done elsewhere from folks who know their stuff, although I have trouble understanding some of his posts.

JM

he can be very interesting, but for some reason he has recently taken to denigrating all and sundry, which is a shame.
It also seems as if the bloody minded fight has gone out of him, which is also a shame.

Stick, if you are out there get off your arse and post some more pictures of the mountain country.
He is also a well known actor----does special movie appearances.

Stick, you are so far behind that you cannot even see how you have fallen.
For a start you do not even seem to be able to articulate a coherent argument, even on subjects you know well.
You also appear to lack any fight, and have resorted to pass, inane retorts that simply go nowhere...for example <GRIN>, LAFFIN, you is you.....etc!
Not original, and more to the point it makes conversing with you a boring endeavour.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that you are depressed about something, I postulate this as I believe that it is not possible for anyone to survive in this world by answering in a mono-syllabic, tortured manner such as you have been doing recently.

Personally I would prefer to see that change...to see a wee bit of zest back in your posts.

All I can say is thank god all of the stick's idiotic comments are now limited to pretty much one thread instead of having 10-20 of them in the old pre-banning days.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that you are depressed about something, I postulate this as I believe that it is not possible for anyone to survive in this world by answering in a mono-syllabic, tortured manner such as you have been doing recently.

Personally I would prefer to see that change...to see a wee bit of zest back in your posts.

...............Well sonny boy! C`mon down here and you`re certainly welcome to try slappin me up-side my head. Make sure your health and hospitalization insurance is "ALL" up to date.

I`ll be happy to give you some "personal" instruction in the arts! You know; paint by #s and some fingerpainting. Yep! Those types of arts..... wink

And then from your hospital bed, I`ll bring you in a grade school teacher to begin your education all over again. A teacher who can show you some good english, teach you how to articulate, spell of course, communicate better, and who take you from that log cabin mentality of yours up to a much higher standard.

Your recovery, re-hab and re-education, will certainly do you some good for the better. I`ll even donate a flat screen for ya too.

That's frightening, except for the "from your hospital bed" thing which doesn't mske sense.
I think you get the idea.

..........First. I have 7 huge photo albums with several hundred pics in each one collected over the past 40+ years.

Secondly. I don`t own that type of camera and don`t know how to post online.

Thirdly. I really have no burning desire to learn.

Fourth. I will not appease or give in those who wish for me to do so.

..I`m laffin too....But, you`re always welcome to remove yourself from your safety and comfort zone up there and come down here. Then I`ll be more than happy to show you what an imagination can do.

And btw. Since you cannot answer my questions regarding the so-called inferior internal workings of the 4.5-14x40 VX3 on the other thread, then perhaps you may want to explain to the original OP who started that thread as a service to him, why in fact you happen to think that scope is a "nimble bitch from stem to stern" as you so call it.

I think we all would like to know how and why that is, coming from a scope expert such as yourself??
I laid it out plainly and you were/are the only idiot too stupid to savvy.

Par for your putt-putt course.................

...............You laid NOTHING out as to why on that thread! Only your opinion. I missed nothing! You are a damned liar.

Post your explanation then you liar. You gave only opinion with NO explanation.

You can`t even handle that challenge either..........DUMMY!

What word(s) were too big?..................
...............Yeah! I read that. But you keep forgeting about that one little word,,,"why".......The varying eye relief ACCORDING TO LEUPOLD AND NOT ME for the 3.5-10x40 VX3, is nearly identical to the 3.5-14x40 VX3. So your varying eye relief argument without any credible explanation from you, is full of crap! I produced the evidence directly from Leupold, cataloged or not, which seems far beyond your comprehension to do the same.

Also, you DID NOT explain "why" concerning the so-called tracking woes, and you DID NOT explain anything regarding "WHY" the "high maintainence mannerisms" within the 4.5-14x40 VX3, which according to you; quoting,,,,,,"make it a fickle bitch from stem to stern."

Regardless of the subject, you always make very opinionated statements which is ok,,,,,but offer no explainations as to "WHY."

And then when challenged to explain, you do exactly as the damn liberals always do. Side step, duck, divert, name call, plus all the rest of what you do.

I guess I`m asking to much from you, and that is too much of a challenge for you uh Stick? And it is quite clear for all to read, that the difference of stating opinions vs explaining the "WHYS" of one`s opinions, seems to go beyond your comprehension. In all the other threads you happen to participate in, that is definetely a pattern of yours.

And if my 4.5-14x40 VX3`s high maintainence internal mannerisms begin acting up atop my 338-378, I`ll take your expert advise and replace it with a 3.5-10x40 VX3..... wink
Just now cruising around the forum and look what I find. Exactly as I state in my last post above on this thread.

Another one of Big Stick`s predictable posts in the "Long Range Hunting" section under the thread called "Please recommend a Scope."

After Coyote Hunter states that he has been buying Burris scopes for two years or so, this is Big Stick`s exact reply.

Quote....."I wouldn`t have a Burris in a pigs ass, upon a BBQ spit".......Unquote

Maybe Coyote Hunter will have better luck than me acquiring Stick`s opinion as to "why" he dislikes Burris????

I had no luck getting a "why" from Big Stick as to his dislike for the 4.5-14x40 VX3.

Assuming you wish to try to challenge the Big Stick, good luck there Coyote Hunter!!

Lets just let this go.

Once upon a time Big Stick used to be a big deal around here. Maybe if we all ignore him he will mercifully go back where he's been hiding for the past couple of years.
no one on an internet forum has ever been a "big deal" to me
Quote: "Lets just let this go"

Lets Not!

Considering the overall rudeness and cretin like behavior not to mention the diminshed value I belive a name change is in order. From this point on Big Stick will now be referred to as "Dip Stick" has a nice ring to it...ya think?

Perhaps we should vote on it.

Dip Stick...kinda grows on ya.

Yup Dipstick...has a nice ring to it.

I shoot a little of everything and enjoy sandbagging along the way.

I'd be surprised that anyone HATES Winny's as much as I...but that thing is a phenom in the accuracy department.

Throated wonderously to boot,in conjunction with it's mag confines. Hard to cuss, though it pains me to say that...................(grin)

You missed a good time on the Burns thread last night.....
You then said what???? You are one strange piece of work. You didn`t say anything!!!

I guess its too damn difficult for you to explain yourself in stating your opinion using typed english? So instead, all you can do is just post pics of scopes? So what are we supposed to do, try and read your damn mind? Any mind left up there between your ears?

And the best you can do is state,,,"Get a chuckle outta Window Lickers talkin glass?"

THANK YOU Mr. Big Stick for your wonderful logic, knowledge, expertize and WELL STATED opinions backing up your claim that the 4.5-14x40 VX3 is truly one big POS.

I happened to call Leupold and a few other people and guess what there "you clown." There is absolutely no mechanism or mechanical differences internally between the 3.5-10x40 vs the 4.5-14x40 VX3.

One is just as strong (durability wise) as the other. And as usual, you cannot produce ANYTHING that says otherwise.

Take care,,,,,,,,,,,,,,DIP SSSSHITSTICK

I thought it was rather childish abuse of (and by) a Campfire sponsor from people who have zero actual experience using the Greybull system.

Stick is forever railing on those who espouse opinions based on inadequate experience actually using the items and that seems to be what was going on in the B v. S thread.

At least it's easy to not click on the nonsense.

Seldom even have to change the presentation, which do save time and accounts for more victims to the bank and in shorter order.

Admittedly,results always did interest me..................
What's so amazing is that you stood on the corner and yelled "Where'd THE idiot go?" and they all came running!

Totally hilarious!

You could wait just two weeks make the same cast in the same hole and they would all hook up again, everyone of them and more.

Your catch and release method is truly a fine art and difficult to mimic. Many try but will never equal the master.

Wonders never cease......

Continue on,,, I'll just read and laugh myself to tears.

Yalls. Not halls...
Yes, you could......but there still wouldnt be any mountains, gophers, elk, or antelope where your trout are...
Nope... only sand, wee little deer, pigs and yankees.... grin

ingwe,

You make me jealous! I wish I was in Montana. It's been years since I came to Glacier N.P. for a few weeks...maybe next year. Once I retire, I'm gonna he headed that way on a permanent basis. It's hotter than hell down here in Florida. Currently 90, heat index 102.
Well, since you guys are talking fishing, I dragged my sorry carcass out of bed this morning and ran down to Torrey Pines SP beach and caught a few surf perch. I have to admit I was paying more attention to the hotties running on the beach...
And I just got back from a creek/trout fishing interlude with Ingwewife and IngwedogII...

Pretty sweet day...will post pics elsewhere...maybe on a fishing thread...
Now who the hell posts fish pics on a fishing thread...... jeez.....
Did the wife out fish you again?
Welllllllll.......its like this...

We had a bet on First, biggest and the most...two out of three wins, and the loser cooks dinner..... grin

I just ordered pizza....... blush
