What would possess someone to shoot the deer in the ass?

I shot an arrow into a doe's ass once. Would have blasted the heart/lungs if she hadn't spun at the shot (recurve, late season, jumpy deer). Recovered 250 yards away, no blood (found and shot again). Sucked. No more jumpy deer shots late season. None earlier too.
