I actually like a turret scope with a .17 HMR, especially for ground squirrel shooting. It helps with hitting tiny targets.
By the way, have you tried A17 ammo in your rifle? I've been using it for a couple of years on prairie dogs, because it gets around 2850 in my CZ, and the difference in trajectory and power is noticeable over the standard-velocity stuff--which I still use on ground squirrels.
