FWIW, we got my Dad a 597 for Christmas a few years ago. I like it's man-sized stock more than my carbine length 10/22. It's very accurate, and they're a lot easier to clean than the 10/22. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one...but I'm not selling the 10/22 either.
