I was in the vault earlier and noticed a early 1899B with the second style "B"checkering. That tells me there was quite an overlap between the 2 styles of "B" checkering.

1899B,s/n 37.727 pistol gripped,"B"checkering, fancy walnut stock,with silver badge for owners initials,303 caliber,early M.S.A. tang sight,and early savage repeating arms hard rubber shotgun style buttplate. heres a few pictures.
