if you have the ability take a pre-64 Winchester model 70 apart ,then put it back together and use it for a year. then take a new bolt action "any brand" apart and put it back together and use it for a year . check out the workmanship of both rifles, how smooth both are, how well these rifles are put together .then get back to us ,we already know the answer: that old pre 64 model is a jewel compared to any new rifle made today.i own 10 per -64 model 70`s and as long as i am alive they won`t be forsale ever ,i may give one to a friend or family member some day. best in 20 years to ask my son or grandkids. winchester pre64 model 70`s,Savage 99`s ,Ruger #1`s and 77`s,old Sako`s ,old Remington 700`s >these are some of the finest rifles ever made and the reason: people in the old days cared more ,manufactures did try to save a nickel on rifle with cheaper parts.
