Fwiw, the "transplants" from "damnyankeeland", that I've met pretty quickly get "the Texas attitude". - Their children will be TEXICANS & their grandchildren will deny that anyone in their family was ever anything but "Pure-blooded Texican".

There's no doubt that some do assimilate very well. On the other hand, a large number of them bring the "goodness" of where they came from with them to Texas and they try to hand it off to others here.
