For a right hand shooter, the right side of the butt stock, upside down,so you just roll your rifle left and read the chart or confirm your hold over. Clear packing tape has not removed any finish yet but holds up well. On a synthetic stocked rifle I all ways do this and put a playboy cut out of a naked redhead on the cheek piece so when things are dull you at least have something to look at.
