Over the years I have taken elk with cals' from 6.5 to .338. The Barnes mono has been the king of elk bullets for me. 120gr in 6.5, 130 in 270 & 140 in 7mm. Never have failed me..They will almost every time give complete penetration thru mature elk even at acute angles thru heavy bone & muscle. They only thing I would stress is be very aware of what is on the other side of the elk you shoot. It is very easy to shoot two elk with one shot. The 140 TSX in 7mm will handle game much heavier than elk. The importance of a squeeze trigger & proper bullet placement id paramount. Many of the elk I have taken have been under 100yds thru little openings. I can't stress enough being able to make accurate off hand shots. Practice, practice practice.
