Neither unfettered socialism nor unfettered capitalism has worked anywhere for long. The US has socialist programs and the Scandinavian countries have a lot of capitalism. The difference comes in where you set that balance. In Scandinavia, it's a bit more toward social programs, in the US it's a bit more toward capitalist principles. Both places have good quality of life and both work reasonably well. In Canada we're somewhere in between, which also works reasonably well most of the time. I don't think anyone is arguing complete socialism anywhere, not even AOC or Sanders. They do appear to want to raise taxes, especially on the wealthy, to pay for social programs. Not very different from Canada or Scandinavia.
