As for me, I tune them, let them get a good coat of rust, and then boil them in a dye, usually walnut based dye.
You can buy that dye in a bag that mixes in up to 5 gallon of water. Just boil them for about an hour at a simmer and they will come out brown or black depending on what color dye that you purchase.
The last step is to wax your traps. This will protect your trap and some people say it locks in any scent and helps them fire a little quicker.
All I know is in coyote trapping, the two most important things are a solidly bedded trap and controlling your scent.
As for wolves, I know nothing about that other than I’ve read they are hard to trap. Good luck!
