That's been my experience with the Coopers. They started howling two years ago at about half tread life. I thought the wheel bearings were going out. It's night and day difference when I put the studded winter grippers on or take them off. The studded tires are MUCH quieter. Thankfully this will be the last summer for the Cooper boys. They have almost 60,000 miles on them though.

Have no experience with the Toyos.
