I think I know what it does, but had to look up the correct name - is it a fire piston?
That's what I was thinking too..
I'm going to try that out tomorrow. Works the same way and generates a good bit of pressure. Might work!
We used to put one chinaberry in the tube push it as far as we could with the plunger and then load the second chinaberry behind it and give the handle a quick push. It would shoot the first one out with a pop and leave the second in the barrel ready for the next berry to be loaded behind it.
