Obviously not worth half that if it sold for that. Sure wouldn't pay that myself but someone felt it was worth it. The prices various 340's go for around here vary considerably. I paid less than $200 for both of mine, one a 325 in .30-30 and the other a .322 in .22 Hornet. Recently, an average grade .222 sold for over $500, the next week a very nice .222 sold for $350.
