I agree with Brad for the most part, I have five 2.5-8x36 scopes and one 3.5-10x40, to me the 3.5-10x40 is a tweener.
to me the question is 2.5-8x36 or 4.5-14x40, don't think I will ever buy another 3.5-10x40.


Good comment re 3.5-10 being a tweener, for me anyway. I hadn't thought about it but agree. If I go to a larger objective bell and more magnification than 7 or 8 power, I want a LOT more. I tried a 6.5-20 (?) Leupold for awhile on a small critter long range rifle, and it was good, but I didn't use it enough for anything so specialized. A hunting partner who is a superb hunter has run a 3.5-10 for decades on his 300 Win mag.
