Why? Deer are rather easy to kill with well placed shots from 22 caliber rifles. They offer high velocity and low recoil.
Yep. I've seen exactly zero difference on deer with well-placed shots with 22 cals (which is rather easy to do because of the lack of noise and recoil) compared to 243 or 270 or 280 or 30-06, and several other cartridges. They all died very quickly, and none went very far.
