Because of the 24-hour news cycle’s sound byte obsession our vocabulary has been extremely dumbed-down.
Liberal, Progressive, and Marxist are as different as are Democratic, Republic, and Authoritarian but we use the first three and the first two in the second as if they’re virtually interchangeable but they’re not.
There was a time when those we called Liberal and those we called Conservative had similar views of what the country ought to look like but different philosophies as to how to get there.
Today those we call Liberals are Progressive Leftists and have a completely different idea of what the direction the country should go because they disagree with the foundational principles upon which Liberals & Conservatives recognizes as our valuable core.
There really aren’t any (Classical) Liberals or (Paleo) Conservatives left in politics at all today.
