A 22 rifle, an important firearm to have IMO. But my experience tells me the 10/22 cannot may not be dependable at times or with various ammo.

I would stay away from plastic actions/magazines of the non linear variety..
But of anything that you could cobble together, I figure a .22 would be the safest..based on the quantity of powder...
