I wouldn't shoot steel out of it but it is easy enough to hand bismuth or ITX shot for it . Those barrels are irreplaceable and were designed for lower pressure 2.5"/65mm lead shot shells.

That doesn't mean they won't be effective, I load 3/4oz of ITX-10 shot in my 16's and 7/8oz in my 12's.
