Surprised he brought you a bottle of Laproaig. While it is a nice single malt, it is rather peaty, which is definitely an acquired taste, as others here have stated. More geared toward the die-hard single malt enthusiast. I would think a bottle of Macallan 12 or The Balvenie 12 would be more appropriate since he didn't know your taste.
