The first rifle I hunted with was a 03A3 semi sporterized WW II Springfield 30'06 that still had it' steel butt plate. As I recall I paid under $100 for it, and bought some steel jacket military ammo for less than a $ a round. The Newly opened Public Shooting Range in Dallas banned steel jacket ammo shortly after that. I hunted everything from rabbits to ? with that rifle until my grandfather saw it. Shortly after that is when my grandfather put me together with a SAKO 243 as a wedding present at 23 years old.... and I am 78 years old now days....and still married to the same wife. Ron
