Jesus asked if it's 'possible' he be permitted
to not drink from the cup...Why bother asking
such if the outcome is already predetermined?
He wasn't actually asking, but rather giving words to the impulse of his flesh to avoid suffering. We know what Jesus's will was by what he chose to do. The Father didn't say no to a request by Christ to avoid The Passion. We know this because,
after the prayer you cite, Jesus says to Peter (who was ready to use force to protect him from the guards), "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?" That statement by Christ contradicts your assertion that Christ's will was to avoid The Passion. Had that been his will, he would have prayed for and received the twelve legions of angels.
