Not that my coat doesn't have 6 pockets it's that I may not wear a coat for a lot of my hunts. If its 45° degrees when I walk in at 5 in the morning and it gets to 60° for a high that day I don't need a coat, a camo hoodie or a long sleeve button up short over a tee suffices on a lot of early season hunts.

I can carry the same pack from early October when temps are warm/mild until the first of the year when Iay hunt freezing temps. I don't have to switch gear from different types of clothing as our weather changes from archery season until late muzzle loader.

Just grab the same pack.

Different temps/seasons/weather in different parts of the country may dictate how one packs.
Early here means archery season and I'll be hunting from a stand. That means I'll be wearing my vest type safety harness which has 3 large pockets per side and plenty of room for my essentials, regardless of what I'm wearing underneath it. Gun season it's usually a matter of how many layers I need under my wool mackinaw, which has enough room in the pockets and rear game bag to carry enough supplies for a week.
