Generally, Jeff I keep them at about 3.5;one M70 in 375 breaks about 4;I don't want them too light as I hunt cold weather and too light a trigger can be an issue with gloves etc.M70's should have a hair of overtravel to keep them mechanically reliable.Had to fix one for a guide in Alberta because whoever adjusted his got carried away and took too much overtravel out of the system.

With a varmint rifle go as light as makes you comfy and safe,I say!This to me is where a unit like a Jewel really shines.But I have never had a squawk with a good tuned Remington 700 trigger.Another very good one is the Blackburn for Mausers.
