Yeah, a typical scenario is family folks in the 60-90k range with a 5k deductible after 6k in premiums -- one of the reasons, we've seen surgery volumes drop significantly and individual surgeons practice drop 25-30%.
Who's going to get a small hernia fixed on that income, eat their deductible and have to come up with another 5k?
Or come in for any number of smaller procedures and have to pay for them out of pocket because they don't touch their deductible?

Yup. F'it. The average Joe is gonna just let it go until it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to treat, rather than starve his kids to death.

My families (4 people) plan costs 1920 per month employer pays 2/3 of the premium. The year obamacare was passed the plan cost 980 per month, we have had reductions in some of our benefits as mandated by obamacare.

Yep - higher costs & lower coverage. Only way to win on O-care is to NOT work for a living.

You guys live in the wrong place. I pay about $500 a month, $1,000 deductable and $4,000 stop loss. That's a standard Blue Cross policy my company buys for all employees.
High, for sure, but nothing like you are talking about.
I think the reason surgery volumes are off is that people are going south of the border to get small surgeries done for a fraction of the price. An acquaintance just had two root canals and bridges put in in Puerto Vallarta. $600 and change vs $3,600 locally. US trained dentist, too. Another acquaintance had his daughter go down for arthroscopic knee surgery, couple of thousand $ and she's up and running again.
The problem is not the cost of insurance, the problem is the cost of medical care.
