The fairness argument is what gets me. "Fair" would be if everyone paid an equal share of what it takes to run government services. Equal benefit, equal tax burden. Good luck getting that put in place, though.
What fresh Hell is this?

People will move out of there, and it'll look and feel like Detroit and Chicongo. Yep, capitalism just doesn't compute with these idiots.

It drives me crazy every time I here these people say that the rich needs to pay their "Fair Share". Don't the rich already pay a higher percentage rate? If anything, that's not fair. I hear this from a lot of people, along with "anybody should not be allowed to make over $???????", with varying amounts stated. These people get this from listening to the main stream news feeding their jealousy. They never think about the consequences of this idea if it were introduced. They think that a person would keep making a lot of money, even if anything over a certain figure was confiscated. They also think that should this happen, it would be given directly to the poor, ie. themselves. These people have become so indoctrinated that I don't think they could ever see the truth. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

If I was well-heeled and living in Seattle, I'd be packing my bags today.

Unfortunately, when the very rich leave an area, they migrate to places like Montana. There, they buy the best land at outrageous prices, which drives up all the other land value/taxes and prices the people who were born there out of their own land. THEN, they start changing the local government into exactly what they fled in the first place.

In 2016, 50.57% of Maine's voters approved a 3% tax (over and above what is already paid) on those earning over $200,000. By all accounts, there has been an exodus of those wage earners out of state and good for them. Our governor refused to sign a budget this year if that tax was upheld.
We also voted to legalize marijuana.
While we are no where near that income bracket, my wife and I are leaving. We are sick and tired of this bullshit.

They say its to be sure that the wealthy pay their fair share. WA has a high sales tax but no income tax. While I would buy a modest Ford, a wealthy man will buy a BMW. While I buy a 16' fishing boat, a wealthy man will buy a 24' jet boat with all the fixings. They do pay more taxes because they buy more expensive stuff.

Britain tried that in the 1960s and '70's. It failed. They had the "Fame drain". Most notably Rock Stars - Beatles, Stones, Elton , etc., just left. Britain once had a 95% bracket. No kidding, 95% of income in taxes. WW II was expensive and that was NOT the way to pay for it. George Harrison wrote a song called Taxman - "one for you nineteen for me, I'm the Taxman".

Just like the restaurants that were forced to pay a higher minimum wage in Seattle left, so will the ones that make over the minimum threshold for the cities new income tax. My wife says I'm to 'strong' in my intolerance of liberals. I don't think I'm strong enough.

It's a cancer. That's what happened to Seattle. People driven out of California moved there then worked, and continue to work, very hard at making it into California. It was underway in 88 when I PCS'ed up there and it has continued now as a multi-generational thing and their little snowflake children are all full of that entitlement mentality. Lots of great folks in WA (and CA and OR for that matter) and very few of them live in the big cities that drive the liberal agenda.

Seattle is symptomatic of a liberal educational system which includes private schools. This class warfare is easily taught to the masses as capitalism is criticized. Decades of this has given rise to the popularity of Bernie, Pocahontas, et. al.. The USA is at a crossroads of political and economic direction. As capitalism is trampled by many, Trump brings a re-awakening of its value and worth in a free society. This struggle will not end anytime soon. It is no surprise that another large city is controlled by socialists - too radical to be called democrats.

It's a cancer. Sounds like what has happened in Colorado and Vermont, formerly conservative States that have become aggressively liberal when people moved there to escape something and as soon as they established themselves, they set about to help the natives live better, more progressive, lives. Liberalization doesn't take place over night, rather it creeps in over decades.

Seattle is a liberal city which is trying to control the state. They need more money to do this. "Tax the rich" has long been a great vote getter here in Canada. Out latest liberal gov't used this line in the last election on several occasions to ply votes from the lower middle classes. I've had high hour weeks where I've paid more in deductions than I took home. Should be a flat tax, no matter how much you make,

This is more of the lasting legacy of the lawn jockey we had for 8 years.

The wealthy also buy more expensive toys and pay a greater amount of sales tax in the process. Now the idiots want to add a additional bracket to their income tax? Even Socialists like Macron are trying to lower their tax rates.
