LMFAO.

Were this a real campfire I'd have a perplexed look on my face throughout 90% of the conversations.

I'll be damned if this isn't the best $7.00 you can spend for a layman's kitchen.

Yes I can put an edge on a knife in a traditional fashion and yes I can use a steel. But this thing flat works and if you want a gift idea...

Roger that.

I'll park my Tundra in the kitchen next time we're butchering.

Thanks.

Cheap Asian glass. You'll get better results from a Cheby or Furd. MAGA!

My latest wife left me so I have been crushing the Buds.

Even the dog seems offended.

Top of the morning to you Travis, I trust all is aligned in your world.

We've used that very same Rada model for at least 5 years now when we're cutting game. As you've stated it works very well on commercial grade cutlery and it's fast and simple as a bonus.

It could be my imagination, but I almost think it's a tad less aggressive now after 5 years of hard use - but then again if I wasn't so cheap I could cough up another $7 USD and start again could I not?

Oh and I've got a bench belt grinder like Scott has shown in shop where we cut meat and I prefer to use the Rada whenever I can as it's quicker. When I want to start the bevel on a dead edged knife again, then I'll use the belt grinder.

Anyway as always there's many roads to Mecca and all that, but you're right this works well for the price of a couple cups of Seattle coffee....

Lastly Rada knives aren't all bad either though perhaps a tad high in price for what they are.

Have a good weekend Travis - see you in church.

Dwayne

This thing has a carbide v section like the rada, a ceramic v section like the rada as well as square and round ceramic and preset ceramic angles for scissors.

It's simply perfect......and it's 2 oz......and 10 bux.

rockinbar;
Top of the morning to you sir, I hope all is well in your part of the world and you're keeping cool enough.

I'm going to try out Rick's new photo thing here for practice, so apologies for the couple "thousand words" here.... wink

So the Rada carbide wheels are for this quality of blade at our house.
[Linked Image]

Or maybe even these.
[Linked Image]

Never this one because I'm not even going to admit to myself what I have into it.
[Linked Image]

Like as not, never these.
[Linked Image]

Finally I'd think that this wouldn't be appropriate either.
[Linked Image]

As a random by the way, I have no clue how to make the photos the same size or why some appear larger than others??? confused

Maybe it's just like people and the smaller photos are like me and only 5'5"? confused laugh

Thanks for letting me practice in Rick's brave new cyber world Barry and have a good weekend!

Dwayne

Same here Dwayne. I have always scoffed at these type of gadgets but my mom wanted to be able to sharpen a knife herself so I bought her one. And myself two...

Five passes with a dull as schit Dexter and it was shaving hair. I believe tedhorn has posted they are a staple in slaughterhouses and commercial kitchens.

Save me a seat. And some of that wine...

Dave;
Thanks for the reply, I always appreciate it.

I'd think that the thing about the Rada unit being used commercially is that you can dunk it in bleach solution rather easily. Whenever I bleach my bench grinder it's pain to get the bleach out of the bearings and electrical components....

We don't do real wine at our church Dave - long story about that - but seeing as we live in Napa Valley North here there's no trouble picking up a case or two just down the road afterward. That's likely better anyway though as we might snore a bit too loudly if the wine was consumed pre-service instead of post.

No doubt that's part of the grand master plan. grin

Have a good one sir and careful with that Rada when you're sharpening your cutlass in between repelling the next group of pirates trying to board the raft.

Nice, Dwayne!

Some really nice cutlery in there! smile

I have a few good knives. Not many. I guess I don't need many for what I do.

Grew up working in my dad's meat packing company. Learned at an early age how to sharpen a knife by hand with a correct bevel. In my experience, nothing beats an edge put on a knife by someone that knows how to hand sharpen a knife. wink
