This whole NFL thing reminds me of getting my mother-in-law buried.
We got there about an hour after she'd breathed her last. KYHillChick wanted to see her. I didn't, but I followed her anyway. She was already turning an icky shade of yellow-gray and was starting to stiffen up. Blech!
So they sent a hearse up to Cincinnati to drag her back to the County where all her kin live and we drove down in a couple of days to make arrangements. I couldn't imagine an open coffin, but KYHillChick wanted it done. The next time I saw my MIL was the visitation, and I have to say the mortician had done a bang-up job getting her looking presentable-- pink skin, rosy cheeks. I don't know if you've ever had this happen, but it's hard for a person to look at a dead body at a funeral, and not get the impression the corpse is breathing-- trick of the mind. Everyone said she looked so peaceful and all.
I was the head pall-bearer, and so I was there after the crowd had left. We were short a couple of guys that had been detained, and I was trying to figure out if we could get her out to the gravesite on dew-slick grass with just 4 guys. As I was going round the coffin, I caught a view of the head from a different angle. The mortician had done a good job up to about the ears and then stopped. Past that, the corpse as gray and lifeless as when I'd seen it in the home. I was more than happy to get that lid closed and be done with it.
Yep. That's about how I'm feeling with the NFL right about now. Get the lid closed. Get it in the ground. Let's hire a piper to play Highland Cathedral and then let's go get drunk with the cousins.
I'm with you, shaman. I don't drink anymore, but I'd toast that one with you.

I sat next to a high powered lawyer from Dallas on the plane one day. The both of us were actually returning from Africa on the leg between Atlanta and Dallas. Don't remember how the subject got on the Cowboys, but his guy had done some work for the Jones family in the past. He confirmed they were pretty much trailer park trash, with money. I haven't like them since Tom Landry was fired anyway, as I can't stand Jimmy Johnson either, or Switzer for that matter. I'm a lifelong Steelers fan and I would concur with your opinion about Jerry Jones --- and just about every Texan I ever met --- trailer trash and uneducated as a bag of used rubbers! NFL will weather this storm and keep on chuggin' as America's favorite sport. Trump and Jones will be pushing daisies for many decades before the NFL even starts to think about posting a proft loss.

Maybe splitting hairs but all Cowboys were standing for the anthem- and no, I don't like this crap any more than anyone else does.
Most telling response to all this was the list of arrested NFL players over the past few years.
One positive out of this is the power of the purse in action. Some may slight Trump for stirring up a mess but at least he had the guts to stand up to it. He didn't stir up this mess. The NFL did by not taking care of Kapernik a couple years ago. I stopped watching it last year because of him and stopped this year when I saw a guy sitting on a bench eating a banana during the Anthem. If they loose money I couldn't care less.

. . . and another thing:
Back around 9/11/2001, I was having back trouble-- upper back spasms that would knock me down to my knees. The doc gave me some muscle relaxants for when they got bad. I did not take them often and got off them as soon as possible, because they made me weepy and weird.
So 9/11 comes around and everyone spazzes out. Rightfully so; it was our generation's Pearl Harbor moment. They go to have the first big NFL game (maybe Giants at home (?)), while the twin towers was still smouldering and I'd had a back spasm earlier in the day and was in bed on one of the pills. If I remember, they pulled out all the stops for this one-- a field-sized flag, jets flying over, the works. I was high on the pills and it set me off. I'm weeping like a child, getting all patriotic, and then the network broke for a local commercial and it was some completely mundane car ad. Reality came crashing in.
The thought occured to me: This is theatre. You're getting your buttons pushed. This is entertainment in the guise of patriotism. This is not genuine. Somebody wants you to be all choked up right now.
Now don't get me wrong. I dig/dug the NFL. I've never been a hater. Although, there was about 10 years there around college, where I hardly watched. Even after this happened, I didn't feel bitter. However, I realized that all this patriotism and chest beating, and hand-over-the-heart schtick was all inserted at the beginning of games to sell beer, sell trucks, and sell the NFL. That's all it's there for on Sunday afternoon. That's all the reason it was ever there. If they could have sold more beer and trucks having a pre-game dwarf tossing contest, they'd have done that instead.
I'm just saying.

I hear what you're saying, but what it all means to them is different than what it all means to some of us. That's where the anger comes from. We're pissed because they're running around trying to figure out how to "fix" this. And as you said, they are looking for a means to an end, a path to the bottom line. Which many of us know is completely disingenuous. Some of us just WANT to see them do the right thing, because it's the right thing to do. Yet they keep leaving breadcrumbs everywhere that tell us, they don't know or care what the right thing really is.
And that brings me back to something my Dad used to tell me- you can't buy integrity, you just have to have it.

They can say whatever they like. It's too late for amended behavior to make a difference to me. It has been made clear that we are the assailed party in a culture war and this is just a skirmish while the left hones their tactics . sawbuck, this seems close to my reaction to the blatant disrespect of some NFL players. I'll explain: I don't see how their behavior can be "fixed" or "amended" to get me back as a fan in the near future?! Yes the players could be made to stand showing respect, But It will all ways be remand of their piss-poor actions and won't trust that they are genuinely respectful; Just standing, etc. to avoid some kind of punishment.

(Filthy Liberal Cultural Marxist) Democrats suffered a net loss of 1,042 state and federal posts, including congressional and state legislative seats, governorships and the presidency during "Pres-i-who?" Barack Obama's eight years in office...
Democratic U.S. Senate seats dropped from 55-46, while their share of the House went from 256 seats to 194. Democratic governorships went from 28 to 16. Some 958 state legislative seats were lost by the Democrats. Republican Donald Trump was elected president

It's nice to see someone in here besides filthy masses of brainwashed, uneducated Trump-Tards who can't think for themselves and need to do a stupid "Seig Heil, Seig Heil" at every Trump rally to pretend they're "patriots". My Dad fought in the steamy 'Nam jungles from '68-'71 and came back and started his own construction business and did well for himself. Never dwelled on "fake patriotism" to help him deal with the horrors of war and PTSD and all that stuff. My Dad was smart enough to know that REAL patriotism comes from supporting your country and it's ideals and all that stands for --- good or bad. He's smart enough to know that the flag represents the Constitution --- NOT the military or police or whatever whimsical symbol the right-wing loudmouths claim it is. NFL players taking a knee for social injustice represent the ideals of the Constitution a HELLUVA lot more than some racist white cop beating up a black motorist just because his KKK chapter tells him it's "the right thing to do" when you got a gun and a badge to make you feel macho that night. And my Dad sure as hell doesn't appreciate it when a SIX-TIME draft-dodging COWARD P*SSY-GRABBER Trump tries to tell a country how to be patriotic! If Trump ever visited our house, my Dad got 2 knuckle sandwiches waiting for that cowardly silver-spooned Commie crybaby !! Pop goes the weasel, baby!
