No offense meant, but some here could 'waste away' for months and still be overweight.

It was around here until I built on the land and chased a few of them down the road couple of times.

We pray our sights be straight
and our aim be true
We pray for no pain
to the game we pursue
We thank you Lord
for this land
We thank you for the sights
from our stands
We pray for safety, one and all
We pray we may return next fall

Couple of things.

The first thing that disappears after societal collapse is game.

Also,it strikes me that most of America would be OK with a 5-6 week fast. Comfortable, no. OK, yes.

Do you consider someone who steals something that doesnt belong to them a thief?

If you kill something out of season, you are a poacher. Period.

If you want to justify being a poacher, fine. Thats an entirely different conversation.

But lets not redefine things to make ourselves feel better about it. Thats a very DEmocrateIbProgressive thing to do.

I'd poach to feed my family if I exhausted all other legal options. I'd be a poacher, and a dad doing the right thing.

If you need to kill a deer so your family can eat I don't have much to say about it. They problems will start when you trespass onto my property to do it.

And if it ever gets bad enough that cows and livestock start turning up butchered in the fields....well...ranchers have families too and they're not generally the type to just roll over.

Growing up in the 70's I fished farm ponds in my county and in surrounding counties with my dad and a gentleman who would have been about the age of my grandfather. He grew up here and hunted and fished without regulations or licensing. He drove us around in a "68 iImpala with a shotgun in the trunk. I can recall him taking ducks and quail in the spring and fall when we encountered them. I never considered that poaching.

Sadly, there are almost no quail left here anymore. I have a place to hunt in SC that hosts flocks of geese and ducks.

I just wish I preferred duck and geese over quail.

Get a couple of neighbors together and get it paid for and processed. If you've got deer in the yard I guess you're not expending much in terms of effort or resources to harvest them. If one lives in town and is thinking of driving out and hunting, then buying an animal from a producer is going to get you a LOT more for a LOT less.No need to go full-on hunter/gatherer society here folks.
You'll find that a lot of people don't want to have a simple solution to a problem. My family were and still are rural livestock owners. During World War 2 meat was rationed for the proletariat. Our uncles owned a country store. They butchered a beef every week and furnished their small community with beef and in the winter with pork. The rationing didn't apply there. It was parceled out to everyone including a lot on credit. That sort of thing could be done right now in rural communities without a bunch of stealing and poaching.

I could bag about a zillion big fat gray squirrels in my back yard with a suppressed .22 and save a ton of money on bird food!

It sounds like a lot of guys on here are just looking for a reason to poach rather than find a different solution.
