My 1st car was a 1969 Firebird convertible. I paid $500 for it in 1974. Then $200 to get it repainted and some minor body damage fixed.

Testarossa was my dream car as a kid. I’d still love to have one. 69 L88 Vette ain’t far behind. Would love a ride in either.

Did get a ride in a ‘70 LT1 Vette in high school.

My father was a GM of a Chevy dealership in the mid-‘60’s to mid-70’s so I got to see some good ones. For a couple of summers I worked as a “Lot Boy”, starting all the used cars in the AM, detailing used cars, prepping new cars, sweeping out the body shop, you name it.

A local drag racer ordered a ‘69 (?) Camaro with what, IIRC, had a 396cid engine with a claimed 375 horsepower . For insurance purposes I think it was down-rated from 425 HP. When it came in, my father asked me if I wanted to drive it? 😁 Of course I took him up on it. Now this sucker had a clutch that was either “on” or “off”...no slipping this baby as you started moving. Pulling out of the lot on a side street, I “chirped” the tires a bit 😀 and my Dad got a little excited. That sucker wanted to run.

Also got to drive a used first year Corvette. Rode like a go kart with no suspension and didn’t really have too much muscle. The owner’s son had a 427, 435 HP tri-power with the side pipes and I got to drive it too. Loved those side pipes.

I drove a ferrari 328 GTS that belonged to a friends dad several times. Met a man while racing (road cycling) that had a 64 ferrari, a 1938 BMW and little lotus left hand drive racer. Those were fun, both a trip around the block is not near enough time to get a feel for the cars.

My folks bought one of those new Fiat Spiders last year. For a little 2 seater, it gets up and moves quite nicely.

I drove a red Ferrari convertible (1985 308) into the warehouse from the transporter back around 1987, it was a grey market import. Not much of a drive, but I did it!! A pox on FedGov for putting an end to that party, the American people were getting what they wanted - versions of Euro cars not sold here.

After that I test-drove a 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra convertible with the supercharged V-8, that was a really fast car and I regret not buying it.

Dad had a black 1987 Buick Grand National with the turbocharged V-6 - incredibly quiet car (well, Buick!) that was deceivingly fast. Fun car to drive and no bad characteristics (for 1987, anyway).

The sportiest car I owned was the only new car I've bought, a 1985 Ford Mustang, the last year with an Autolite carburetor with the T-5 5-speed transmission.

I'm boring and practical, now: two Nissan Frontier p/u's frown

1985 was the last year for an Autolite (Holley) carburetor - I had one. The automatics had fuel injection:

https://www.hotrod.com/articles/3-years-5-0l-high-output-fitted-holley-4180c-carburetor/

The Holley 4180C four-barrel carburetor was originally factory installed on all 1983-1985 Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L High Output engine and manual transmission. Models with Automatic Overdrive got CFI (central fuel injection), which was fired by EEC-III or EEC-IV depending upon build date. The 5.0L-4V was GT only in 1983-1984, then also LX models for 1985.

I have a 77 vette with all new suspension and a few extra ponies under the hood. It’s fast enough to be fun plus it looks cool smile

Not as fast as some of the newer sports cars, but about all I can handle

Back in my body shop days I restored a Pantera for a fella he had me take it for a spin. It had a big block Ford mid engine. Pretty rowdy little highway star for its time....

Jr High and HS friend's dad restored a sports car and let him take it out once in a while on weekends. He would come over and we'd do some cruising for a couple hours. I asked if I could ever drive it and in a weak moment he said OK. Didn't get to drive it very far, maybe a 1/2 mile or so, but damn, it was a 1961 Austin-Healey Bug Eyed Sprite. Buddy made me promise to NEVER say anything to his dad. Never did.

Worked on a MG for a gal in the 70's and it was a hoot to drive.

Before i got the carbs tuned it could not get out of it's way,but after it would do some scooting.

Due to the increased price of ammo, don't expect a warning shot...
