I pretty much never listened to musicians less than 10 years my senior, so van halen was just one of those new/modern musicians I dismissed, since he had no bearing on my love life.

Saw him a couple of times. Wow. Didn't someone once say no one could overplay the guitar in a song like EVH. Interestingly enough he started on drums with Alex on guitar before the switch. RIP, Edward. One of the greats.
Same chit kilt my brother Nov1 2014. Ben was only 64. Growing up here in So Cal I must have seen Van Halen preform a dozen times they played my High School in 1974 before they made it big . Seen them play Gazzarri's in Holywood a couple times. Battle of the bands at the Orange County fairgrounds, concerts. Local boys, grew up in Pasadena So Cal. The story is their father who was also Musician gave Eddy the drums and Alex the Guitar... Good thing they switched. Eddy Van Halen was the greatest guitarist there ever was or ever going to be. I play and I would have given my left nut to be able to shred like that... RIP Eddy.
Surprised he lived long enough for Cancer to get him.
He lived on Jack Daniels and Heroin for years.
RIP Eddie.
