The list would be better if it was top ten westerns per decade made/released.

Both are pretty good. The better of the two is Little Big Man, but very anti-White message throughout.

As much as I like John Wayne, and am a huge fan of his movies, very rarely were they ever period correct as far as the kind of firearms that were used. But, then there have been very few movies made that ever were.

I think McQ and maybe the Shootist were his best for period correct firarms.

The worst was the Comancheros with Winchesters and SAA's being used in the 1840's

It was a good movie that should've been a great, great movie. The horrendous musical score destroyed that film.

I'm talking Butch and Sundance.

Agree on the music. Hokey.

Thank you! That music is crap! Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. Garbage! Especially bad for a western.

It would be on my list. As mentioned, Winchester 73 and the Liberty Valance movie would be there too.

Winchester 73 with Stewart was a total bore. Just dragged and dragged, and lots of stupid scenes.

Rock Hudson made his movie debut, he was a Comanche Indian chief.

Open Range was definitely mentioned. One of the great modern Westerns. There was also a Quick and The Dead staring Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, and Leonardo DiCaprio. I liked it. Not sure it belongs in the top 20, though.

Seems I remember the one with Sam Elliot, too. I don't remember much about it, though.

Another vote for:
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Open Range
Appaloosa
The Outlaw Jose Wales

Hombre also was really good, but I don’t know if it would make my top-20

Another vote against:
2010 True Grit

That's what comes to mind, presently.

Hatfields and McCoys was not a Western.

Actually a pretty good flick. I enjoy it when it reruns.

TRH comes through again.

To add Henry Fonda was a great bad guy.

Thank the Guinea gun makers for that...
