We need: 1) serial number range 2) takedown or solid frame (if TD remove forearm and verify that brl indexes correctly ...not loose) 3) checkered or not 4) order a copy of Rory's (Calhoun) new "Savage 99 Pocket Reference". Find at www.savagelevers.com

I'm close to a deal on a Savage 99 30-30 serial number 1099xx with octagon barrel. I have pictures but I can't get them to post on here. Anyway I'll know tomorrow whether we're going to reach a deal or not. The rifling is sharp it is however drilled and tapped

Model 1899B dating to summer of 1910 (in general, any specific rifle may have finished later than normal). D&T hurts the price, but the 30-30 bumps the price over a 303. Good luck!
For the pictures, have you tried uploading them into a post in the Image Gallery that's down towards the list of forums? It should handle larger pictures. Then just tell us you uploaded them there.

I'm sure no Savage expert here! But...Echoing an above Post, I'd want to know what those extra barrels represent! Doing some research after I bought a 30-30, found out mine was the early 1899 from 1908, with "square bolt" aft design. So there's one difference. Don't know more or less valuable, but decided I prefer it! Barrel is 26" which I believe 'standard' in such rifle. Pix below.
What they are worth is a combination of condition, what comparable 99s are going for, and how much does that mean to your pocket book ,[[[[[ All 30-30s were pre-war guns]]]]]]] and the two you asked about may be any of the variety of varients Savage made from pratically day one with the 99. But given what you told us, the first question beyond condition I would need to ask in diagnosing the type and value of the two you mentioned is about the barrel. Are the barrels factory stock in length or have they been cut by previous owners? I wouldn't want to start calling something a carbine or a short rifle if a barrel had been cut down to 20-22-inches or, likelwise, anything else if a barrel had been cut down to 24-26-inches from an early "Long Tom."
sorry S99VG but i have a 30-30 produced after the 2nd WW,and two rebarreld 30-30s with late barrels ,and people need to check barrel address
