Getting married late in life presents a whole set of considerations that might not be applicable when you get married young. I know that for me if I were to lose my wife I wouldn’t remarry. I’d never do as good and I’m not willing to settle. My girl set the bar so high that nobody else could reach it.

my daughter was 37 before she got married. Son was 48. I finally made it to grandfather status, the oldest is now 8 years old, the youngest only 3. That said, both of my kids had established themselves, were financially well off, and their careers were on track. Both have successful marriages and no financial worries.

Shacking up generally doesn't last past the first year. So...that's a bad idea if you want a life long partnership.
