So it’s cool if a hunter takes a particular cartridge & chooses several platforms right? I could easily make a 30-06 serve the deep woods & also the high open mountains. Two rifles of the same cartridge count as one rifle?

Maybe batteries for 2022 could express the benefits that todays bullets give us…right? Like who would have ever thought 30 years ago that the .223 would be doing what it is. (77TMK)

Just a few thoughts

One needs a .22 long rifle to train and with which to procure a small game at moderate ranges. My choice would be a Ruger 10-22 with a fixed four power scope.

One needs a defensive pistol with which to defend family and home at short ranges. My choice would be a Browning Hi-Power in 9 mm.

One needs a shotgun with which to defend family and home at moderate ranges and with which to procure winged game. My choice would be a 12 gauge Benelli.

One needs a major caliber rifle with which to defend the home and family at medium to long ranges and procure large game. My choice would be a Winchester model 70 stainless in 30-06, mounted with either a 2.5 x 8 or 3 x 9

In this day and age I think one is wise to have a combat arm. My choice would be an AR platform in 5.56 with some sort of optical red dot site.

Five gun for a particular hunt/shoot???

Ok, for Prairie Dogs here goes:

17 Hornet
204 Ruger
223 Remington
22-250
22-250AI
And a 45 Colt revolver loaded with #7 for snakes.

I usually don’t bring five for big game, since three will be enough.

I prefer classic.

fill this case and use what you brought the next 3 years.

feed it one 50cal ammo can filled full of whatever ammo u like.

it's way harder then it looks.

tempting to go switch barrel on the hunting/practice rifle but the can of ammo is limiting too.

While I’m attached to most all of my firearms. I won’t sell my Dad’s Winchester Pre64 SuperGrade Featherweight in 30/06 or his Winchester Model 71 348 Win that was stolen from him exactly, to the day, 40 years ago.

Police recovered the 348 Win after a man, who claimed to have bought it 40 years earlier, had tried to sell it on consignment through a gun store. They had to run the serial # before taking it on consignment. It came up stolen. I got the call from the police on the exact day, 40 years later from when it was taken.

After some deep thinking and days of self assessment, I now realize the err of my thread building ways - I’ve turned back toward the light. Thank you gentlemen!

To think I almost posted a thread titled ‘How many guns do you need…really?!” (Joking)

I think you did, all 800 times.

Probably 900. I know you’re right & it’s a ridiculous topic in general, however it’s nice to see how peoples preferences evolve throughout the years and how incoming sportsmen & women might see things. Anyhow…2022!

You sure hit that nail on the head, evolve indeed. I know I have.

I'm pretty close to being there, I just need to sell a few. This is what will still be around after the culling.

CZ 455 22LR
AR 15 223
12 gauge BPS, at some point I'm going to turn it into a Benelli.
Tikka Superlight 6.5 Creedmoor, I'm going to sell my 358 winchester and make the Tikka a switch barrel, 6.5 Creedmoor/358 Winchester.

Howa mini action 223.

I'm on the fence whether to put more money into it or sell it and buy another Tikka. I screwed up a couple of weeks ago and didn't get an Encore that was way to cheap. If I could luck into a cheap Encore, that would be my number five.

I'm here to increase my social credit score and rub elbows with some of the highest rollers on the internet.
