I just spent an hour and twenty minutes on You Tube, listening to Victor Davis Hansen via John Anderson (fromer deputy PM of Aust)...titled War in Ukraine. Which was a little misleading, he covered everything near and dear to our hearts for discussion here on the 'fire. VDH's clarity of thougfht and vision is a stunning journey into the world of common sense. He covered it all..journalism, covid, China, Ukraine, Russia, 2022 voter sentiment...well worth your time IMO.

absolutely he hasn't that's why it's so hysterical reading posts that Putin wants to invade Europe and rebuild the Soviet Union. They believed the covid scam and they'll believe this fairy tale concocted by the media.

I struggle with Hanson's opening premise that Putin wants to reclaim the 100,000,000 people, territory, and infrastructure Russia lost with the fall of the Soviet Union.
As John Mearsheimer frequently points out there is no evidence for this and Putin has never stated this as his aim. To the contrary, Putin has stated the opposite, as in his infamous quote, "Whoever does not miss the Soviet Union has no heart. Whoever wants it back has no brain.". The notion that Putin wants to reclaim former Soviet member states was invented by the US media narrative as part of the villainization of Putin and the Russian people toward deflecting fallout (annexation of Crimea) from the 2014 Western planned coup against Ukraine's duly elected President Yanukovych.

Watching further, host John Anderson attempts to give Obama credit for US energy independence. Fortunately, Hanson corrects him. Credit for the correction is partially due to the benefit of the unedited long format interview.
Later, Hanson makes an interesting point about conservatives not letting fantastical overreaction to legitimate political grievances undermine efforts to resolve those complaints in earnest. He uses the manipulation of the 2020 election as an example.

No.
Dont' remember the source but read putin had mentioned bringing(taking?) Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan into the fold, but no more. Trying to rebuild the old USSR would be an incredibly stupid move and putin isn't stupid.

C'mon king. You know full well the West is without sin. The pinnacle of virtue, in fact.

Didn't Putin say, or at least infer, that he wanted to recreate the borders of the former Soviet Union?
No.
I saw an article from 2014 that cited John Bolton saying that Putin saw the collapse of the Soviet Union as a major geopolitical disaster of the 20th century for the Russian nation because tens of millions of Russian speaking "co-citizens" and "co-patriots" found themselves in the former Soviet Socialist republics outside of Russia. Bolton commented that Putin wanted to bring all of those "co-citizens" and "co-patriots" back under the umbrella of a new Russian empire. To bring those former Soviet citizens back, the land that they lived on had to come along too.

“First and foremost it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” Putin said. “As for the Russian people, it became a genuine tragedy. Tens of millions of our fellow citizens and countrymen found themselves beyond the fringes of Russian territory. The epidemic of collapse has spilled over to Russia itself.”

I have all the sources. They can't stop the signal.

Lamenting the demise of a sociopolitical system that one shared with hundreds of millions isn't evidence for wanting to recreate it.
John Bolton is a warmongering stooge who for obvious reasons can't be considered a reliable source on Putin's state of mind.
