Even though it doesn't make it out of the safe for hunting much anymore, my M700 KS 338 Winchester magnum is my favorite rifle. Bought it in 1997 and it's wonderfully accurate with 225 gr Accubonds at 2870 FPS.

My KS started life as a 35 whelen, I got it new in 2006. As well as it shot I wanted to throw a little bigger lead and had Kevin Weaver rebarrel it to 375-06 in 2013. By far my favorite rifle, it shoots Sierra 250 grain gamekings at over 2700 fps and Nosler 260 Accubonds at 2600 fps and still weights less than 8 pounds. I really love my KS,

Is there a big difference in barrel contour between KS and factory sporter?

Is there a big difference in barrel contour between KS and factory sporter? There is - the KS contour for a non-magnum is more similar to a Rem Mtn rifle/1st Gen Ti contour then to their regular sporter barrel. If I can find it I'll try to repost here, I did a comparison of both the KS and a Mtn rifle contour and posted it here but its been several years. In the pictures you can see how similar they are at certain points when you measure down the barrel. But where the KS is better IMHO is the fact it finishes at 24" versus 22" like the Mtn rifle, helps balance a rifle a bit more.

Not sure if this helps - you can sort of see the contours?? Anyway, top rifle is a Gander Mtn Guide rifle in /243, middle rifle is a 1st Gen Ti 7mm-08, bottom is a KS .280. You can sort of see that they are pretty similar.

As OM stated, the KS is often described as midway between the mountain and standard sporter. The contour in discussion: poem for a beautiful lady

The KS Magnums are a similar taper, but my .300 Win was .640 at the muzzle IIRC.

My first was a 7RemMag that I sold, had to remedy that foolish decision and was fortunate to later acquire a 30-06 and a .280.

If I was a smart guy I"d of grabbed up every KS that came up for sale versus building a bunch of customs that aren't even in the same league as the KS rifles

I am bored today so piddling around looking at some hunting rifles. Some of my favorite rifles I own are those of the Remington Custom Shop….namely the KS rifles. They are quite the rifle and in my opinion very understated. Those that know them, love them. I’m one of those that love them. Who owns and loves the Remington KS mountain rifles? Rifles 350RM, 7-08, 223, 35 Whelen, .280 https://imgur.com/a/0qzCM91Would you tell me the difference between a Remington 700 KS and a Remington KS Mountain Rifle? Reason I asked is that for years I've heard them called Remington 700 KS Mountain Rifles but have never seen a Rem 700 KS Mountain rifle. I own two Remington 700 KS Rifles and five Remington 700 Mountain Rifles but have yet to see a Remington 700 KS Mountain Rifle. Thanks for helping me clear this up.

Like an idiot I sold my .375H&H KS.
That’s actually one rifle I really wish I’d have kept.

They are the same - the Remington Custom Shop KS Mountain rifle I guess what it is technically called. The "KS" I believe was because of the Kevlar stock - KS part of that. So if they came out of the Custom Shop its a KS rifle, if they where a regular mountain rifle they had wood or plastic stocks and the regular mountain rifle also had a 22" barrel where the KS Mountain Rifle barrels are 24". AKwolverine can correct me if I got anything wrong but think thats pretty accurate description??
