Is there any problem with getting salt with that water?

River water, no problems.

Our salt problems are on low spots in dry land fields.

We do have some lower yielding hard pan streaks on irrigated fields but that unrelated.

If good hay and only a little rain, that's pretty cheap.

about how much does each of those bakes weigh?

I cannot tell the size from the picture.

BMT

Gonna say 65-70# 2 string

Most of the hay guys are using round or 3x3x8 bales

900+ lb high quality first cutting grass rounds, $55 each, loaded on my trailer in the field.
Just bought some 60lb squares of first cutting grass with a touch of clover for $5 a bale.

Crazy good year, better if it stays dry for a week or ten days to get the first cutting in.

Osky

Have not irrigated yet this year. Will likely get first cutting without any irrigation. It just keeps raining a little here and there. Just hope it shuts off so we can get the 1st put up next week.

Then I will get our pipe laid out and get after it. Bought a new pressure booster pump for my gated pipe. Updated design that I am hoping cures some of my problems on 1 field. If it does, I will get that pump paid off maybe this year. Certainly halfway trough next year I will be money ahead.

When I lived south of Albuquerque, I got five cuttings of alfalfa each year. Irrigated off a cement ditch that made 3500gpm. Right now I have grass that is approaching 4 ft tall, but there is water laying in it.

Flood irrigation here is almost gone

Some places may still

Thinking our local irrigation has been pressurized for 20+ yrs

Have a 6" main line....with 3" risers every 100' or so

Plenty of pressure

I need to ask my nephew what he just paid for the round bales he just brought in off his girlfriend's field. Farmers are just now getting in first crop alfalfa. I told him to stock up if he can ,we have two big barns to store hay now. Most the crops are in tough shape around here as we just had our first soaker in six weeks. My niece and nephew and a few others just raise heifers now and show some of them. They seem to do ok at it as long as the feed prices don't go off the charts.

Beware of moldy alfalfa. Do not buy from a producer
you don’t trust. Mold in alfalfa can cause abortion in
goats and cows. All horse people I know have a
Zero tolerance for mold.

It took a while to get to 65 degree nights here so our fields have been real slow growing. Friday I was quoted $50 per round bale on a 12 bale goose neck.At an actual sale price. that was a first cut for a guy that had some skinny cattle.
