nissan hasnt made a decent vehicle in 20 years, a friend of mine even owned a big nissan dealership and he even said that. He sold it off and kept his Honda dealership.
That might be going a little far. Head of engineers where I work typically drives Altimas because they pencil out the best. He said they are no ways the best vehicle but he can get one with 100,000 miles, drive it to 230,000 cheaper than he can anything else. He drives 60,000 miles per year so it's important to him.
Isn't that a crap shoot to buy a vehicle with 100k on it and then want it to last to 230,000? The way the majority of car owners take care of their vehicle with dealer recommended 10k oil changes and limited maintenance I can't imagine it is easy to find a suitable car.
Nissan lost a lot of its quality after Renault took over ownership.
If you could see his anal retentive OCD spreadsheet, you'd know he has done his homework. He loves Camry's and everything Toyota. Raves about Subaru. But he says the difference in upfront cost is so much that you never get your money back.
Toyota is what you buy new if you trade often.
The smart boys will pay new price for one if it has 100k miles.
"Best vehicle on the road, they last 300,000 miles!"
"Yeah, and you paid almost new price, on a vehicle with the best 1/3 of its life used up."
Toyota isn't one to buy used, I used to pick up good well used Subarus, run them until
they rotted too badly to be safe. (Spray foamed rockers?😉)
Usually cost of ownership ended up around $5-700/year, just the car.
Their resale increase has ended that.
