Curious how much the black nitride cost> Haven’t done a price check in quite some time. But, last time I did check, a “bunch” of gun parts was Black Nitride treated for $200, and H&M wasn’t particularly fussy about how many guns contributed parts to the bunch, within reason. Check out H&M Metal Processing of Akron OH online for details. Good to know! I'm up in Canada so might have to see what available here.

Would love to find a 219 in 25-20w, never seen one, did own a 220 28 gage! One time. I wish I had one in 25-20. I could sell it and buy a moderately priced German kiplauff. Kidding aside, Owen started hunting at 7 with an experienced 220 20ga, just like I did at the same age. We now have 20, 16, and 12 ga barrels each, three receivers, two 30-30 barrels, and I have a Hornet barrel. They handle and shoot well, and are a lot of fun. One 30-30 has a peep sight, one has open sights, and the Hornet is scoped. 25-20 would be a cool one! Read that it's a good small game round, just finding brass would be a pain. 22 Hornet, that's one I'd like to eventually find, My Dad has a couple rifles and plenty of brass.

A 25-35 would be cool. Doubt they were ever chambered in that though

I had an older 220 .410. It had been nicely restored by someone and only cost $145. That older model however, had no draw bar, so it cocked when you pushed the lever. Even after I lubed it, it was really tight and I was seriously concerned that that lever might bend or even break in time. Sold it to some other old timer with a soft spot for that model.
Bought a few Henrys since, and while lacking the history, they work flawlessly and have very nice walnut. Someone that likes that type and wants one without the search, could do worse. The new .360s should show up before long for those in straight wall states.
What fresh Hell is this?

I have always thought they are cool looking. I have one in 22 Hornet, one in ,30-30 and one in 16 gauge. So have an extra 22 Hornet barrel that came with the 30-30.
The 30-30 shots fine, but needs a major restoration.

The Savage 219 can make for a quite capable, lightweight, stalking rifle: This pre-war .30-30 was weatherproofed with Black Nitride treatment to its exposed steel parts. Quick question, chippy. What leapold scope is that? Thank you!

Quick question, chippy. What leapold scope is that? Thank you! The scope is a Leupold VX-2, 1-4x20, purchased new maybe five years ago. It’s in Weaver’s lowest 1” rings on Weaver #43 bases, the lowest setup I could find at the time. It’s also about the lowest which still allows just enough thumb access to the action lever. Absolutely no chance my thumb could even possibly miss that lever.
Every day’s an adventure.

And while you’re up, what does it weigh? As I recall, the completed rifle was too light for my bathroom scale and too heavy for my postal scale. So, I’ll hafta try weighing it with my RCBS trigger pull scale. When I weighed the trigger pull a few years ago, it was about 6 pounds and requires a pretty hefty squeeze. I expect the scoped rifle will weigh somewhere between 6 and 7 pounds. Now, you’ve got me curious enough to actually find out. It weighs 6.5 lbs as pictured. Can’t see mine being different enough to matter. So, I’ll accept the weight of Txtrout’s 219 as being the same as mine.

Just to add to this thread. Short story is an early second era Unica 30-30. Good bore. I like Stutzens, so why not. After taking the barrel down to 20" the smith had pity and had his assistant blue the barrel, then drilled and tapped for a scope. Rifle has a nice 3.5 lb trigger. I may try and slow rust blue the action, or just take the easy way out and use some matt durablue. It weighs 6.5 lbs as pictured. Plan to use this English/Turkish walnut that I have for the new stock. Not fancy, but adequate. I may even try to make it an 30-30 AI if I like it. Also have an extra 22H for this set too. Perhaps a 219 AI Wasp? Not that I need it. I have another almost pristine first era 30-30 219 with the matching 20 gauge barrel too. I see a 125 grain spire point with some CFE 223 pushing about 2700fps out of that 26" barrel. Also have a dedicated 219 Hornet too... I plan to slowly switch out all of the wood for butt stock with cheek piece's and some with higher/mild Monte Carlo stocks. Maybe even some ebony tips.

I was able to weigh a 219 rifle with a full length barrel, sans scope and it was 6.5 lbs.

Pappy,
The info I found stated that the Leapold VX 1-4 x20mm weighs 8.1 oz.

Were the 219's ever made with nickel plating? I have one in 25-20 that has a plated receiver, plated barrel and what I would call above standard checkered wood. Just wondering if and when Savage might have done this, or if at all. I've never mastered the photo thing here! But I’m learning. It was made in Utica, 26” barrel, cocks on the lever and came with the old Weaver scope. 219 on right receiver and a very nice 4lb trigger. [/[url=https://postimg.cc/67r7CWZb]
