The residents should sue the city every time a person who should be in jail for previous crime steals a gun.

Leave a Lorcin or a High Point 45 ACP in plain view and the doors unlocked. Just be sure the ammo in it has a compressed load of Bullseye and a really tight barrel obstruction just ahead of the chamber. The crackhead thief, or whomever buys it from him won't be stealing another gun once the trigger gets pulled the first time.

Leave a gun anywhere you want. String up the fugking thieves. This Yes You should be able to set your gun or rolex or whatever you want to on your car or front porch or whatever place that is your private property Bad people are the problem. I've yet to figure why everybody doesn't agree with that. You don't mess with something that you know doesn't belong to you. That's common sense. Same with the ptb here that wanted to ban the plastic grocery bags that everybody throws down. Write a ticket for those that litter. That's a law everywhere I've ever been, and as far as I know, it's a law everywhere in the country. Punish bad people that break the law

A gun stolen from your car, used in a high profile crime and traced back to you could result in a lawsuit that even if you win, would ruin you fighting it.

Someone who's been paid $1000 to leave it in the car so it can be stolen

Bingo. Same law in Indy.
This BS is to supposedly stop a form of a straw purchase.
Like those that do it are now gonna stop because they could be fined. Lawless group of society. As usual

Who leaves a gun in their car in an urban city? That’d be me. Today. In Cincinnati. Had to go to the zoning board on court street. Locked the J-frame in the glove box. When I got inside the bldg, I had to go back to the car ‘cause security wouldn’t let me through with my Kershaw, nor would they hold it for me while I took my paperwork upstairs. I normally never go north of 6th street in Cincy without a .45 with 2 extra mags. But for having to go to the zoning office, I’d not have been there. FC

Leaving anything valuable out in plain sight, even in a locked vehicle, is a dumb thing to do. I’ll not excuse a thief, but I tend to look after my possessions, and I’ll always be on my guard. Here in rural Pennsylvania your stuff is fairly safe. That said, I won’t leave a rifle in the truck overnight anymore than I’d leave it in the same spot I’m hunting at tomorrow. But in hunting season you can bet I’ll be keeping it handy. Same with a trip to the range or a competition shoot on the weekend. If I stop for smokes or a cup of coffee, the truck gets locked, and if I have a gun, it gets covered with a jacket or something. Hell, for that matter, if I stop at the store and have a bag or two full of goodie’s, they’ll go on the floor and get covered up if I’m getting out of the truck, and it’s locked up. Like I said, I cannot abide a thief, but I’m not going to tempt the honest guys either. And charging someone a fee to recover their stolen property would be fine if the thief pays the fee. Otherwise it’s theft even if it is the municipality! Reon

We’re I somebody important, I’d consider punishing thieves rather than victims. Dat's racist. Little Jarquarvious wouldn't have stolen that gun if that ole racist Whitey hadn't left in his car. Jarquarvious, he a good boy, he didn't do nuffin.

I spent ~20 of the last 40 years working in downtown Cincy. The last 10 years, anytime I was in downtown Cincy, I had a legally carried CCDW in the center console.
There is also the concept of not looking like a target. Don't cover the vehicle with NRA / Hunting / Firearms related decals. No bumper stickers. No custom/vanity license plates. NOTHING of value visible inside the car. Zero external visual clues to draw attention to your vehicle. Not a 100% guarantee that your vehicle will not be molested. But, goes a long way to reduce probability.

Well, it seems no one will be reporting stolen guns then.
Morons. Uh no. When a thief get caught with Joe's gun, if Joe had not timely report it as stolen, then Joe is in trouble. Proof it was Joe's?

I think this is a PERFECT TIME and perfect opportunity for the citizens of Cincinnati to DEMAND an audit of the police department weapon inventory! For every firearm missing from their inventory they should be required to pay the same fines as well as additional serious consequences for their irresponsible recklessness! This.

Laws are for people with jobs that can afford to pay fines.
No money in jailing a meth head that broke into a car and stole a gun.
Hint……. Yep.
