The Eighth Amendment states, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
Under what metric is "excessive" defined ?
Who gets to determine that ?
Seems awful ambiguous depending on where you sit.

Obviously it (excessive) will be different for every person, what is excessive ?
Individual judges get to decide ? There are no guidelines ?
Seems an easy way to validate a vendetta, clearly easy to abuse.

it's not a criminal fine or bail to postpone imprisonment.
civil law. either pay the judgement or get a bond for the judgement in order to appeal.

civil law. either pay the judgement or get a bond for the judgement in order to appeal. The Eighth Amendment also protects against excessive civil fines, as noted in Hudson v. United States, 522 U.S. 93 (1997). In addition to monetary payments, the excessive fines clause applies to forfeitures of property, as held in Austin v. United States, 509 U.S. 602 (1993)
