Ye speak the same beer language as I, mathman. Never been to the first two but you can say I'm a semi-frequent flier to the second 2 locales.
Wifey was born in Bamberg, and her family and friends are there. We have the luxury of hanging with the natives. Well traveled in Bayern and North Austria I've found a few local breweries I always return to. All time favorite is Kathi Brau in tiny Heckenhof near the Frankish Alps. Very, very dark and hoppy, with a trace of "farm". It's also a meeting place for motorcycles. The owner is a great guy and gave me the 10 cent tour of the brewery. They make a mean pear/apple and plum Schnapps made from fruit trees on their land.

Interesting. Here's my list of favorite beers that are readily available in most US cities (in no particular order):

Guiness (extra stout - no draught crap)
Franziskaner
Smithwicks
Peroni
Negro Modelo
Trappist
Blue Moon
Fat Tire
Abita
Yuengling
and several more...

Still on your mission to save the beer drinking masses mathman LOL.

Add Heineken Dark to the list of good brews and Anchor Porter as well. Frankly, I can find several lagers I prefer over Heineken in the green bottle. Their dark brew is where it's at for me. Taste in beer is highly subjective of course.

How many of you have ever tried Celis Grand Cru. It isn't for everyone. In fact, I don't really care for it. But if you want strong, complex fruity flavor ... give it a try. I couldn't finish the bottle when I tried it. The Celis brewery used to be in Austin. Apparently it has been sold to some Michigan outfit.

Apparently you missed reading my post on the first page of this thread. Sam Adams is GREAT! But as I said in my last post on this thread, whether one likes a beer or not is highly subjective.

Have you ever been to the Forschungsbrauerei in Perlach, a Munich suburb? They have a blond bock that is great. The dunkel doppelbock at Kloster Andechs is superb too.

Too funny ADK4Rick. I'm not on any mission. To each his own. The first time I tried Sam Adams, I thought it was too bitter ... didn't really care for it. Several months later, I got to remembering the flavor, and found myself craving it. It literally was an acquired taste for me. I bought some, satisfied that craving, and I've been hooked ever since.

Just finished a Yuengling Lager, tomorrow I'll have one of their Porter's - good brew from an old PA brewery.
