I have to say that I agree with the original post... and its implications. Flame on.
With some it is not a bad day or a loss of patience or anything else. It is a rule. The norm. The way business is done. I have, truth be told, modified my internet behavior as the years roll by. I was never one to seek out a fight nor to set myself up as an expert. But what I have changed is that I avoid those who do. I just don't want to be bothered.
There is a relatively straightforward test I put to those I converse with on the internet: Would I trust this person to be respectful and helpful to my mother or father if they happened upon this place.
Both are in their retirement years, neither has any experience with the internet at all, and both are as country and hillbilly as their eldest son. In short they are the salt of the earth but are the exact type that some on this forum exalt in insulting, belittling, and making fun of.
If a person fails this test I may still talk with them or post on one of their threads, and I try to respectful and friendly. But I would never consider taking them on a hunt or inviting them to my camp. They aren't welcome. Nor would I accept an offer to share a campfire with them. And I doubt that they would miss me at all. :p
Will I missed this earlier. I may be one of those you're speaking of. I still say, well-said.

Patrick, you're 100% correct.
That's why I stopped posting here several years ago.
This used to be a very pleasent place to visit, which many of us enjoyed. That changed several years ago. Rudeness spread like a fanned wildfire. Many of the more knowledgeable and experienced people just kind of faded away. A few still linger on... But politness? Respect for another's opinion? No more here. It has nothing to do with thin skin and everything to do with manners. This is one of the excellent posts on the topic. Other than you guys leaving I wonder if any other strategy or action is possible? I have asked some of the more virulent such as Big Stick to please tone it down. That what we say here reflects on all of us as hunters, sportsmen and gunowners. However Big Stick is back spewing hate and some are amused by it! Perhaps the vendors and owner of the site like the numbers or action and thats all that counts? Gentlemen, There has now been two pages of comments after I posed the questions above. There has not been any coherent answer or comment yet! This is a waste of time to have to read the comments made. I did ask in a previous thread on this topic and a vendor responded to the complaint that Big Stick is rude and an embarrasment to us. He said that "Good information is good regardless of the source". I put him on ignore as that vendors comments are worthless also. This seems to sum up the forum. I note that the owner has not chimmed in. Perhaps he is not aware of the complaints or approves of the goings on? I am not sure what to do at this point but indeed this forum has become a waste of time.

How many of the posts on this thread start out by assigning motives to others?
How can we do that? Do we know them well enough to do that?
Maybe so many of these contests take off because we are projecting our own issues onto others.
I suppose I'm guilty of doing that even if I try really hard to avoid it.

IMO It was very poor business judgment for a vendor to throw in with a pro Larry post... maybe win a few points with the Twiggy butt lickers.. the rest of us, not so much.
