My 1967 vintage Hornady reloaders manual gives a load of 61 grains of 4831 behind a 130 for the 270.
3200fps too.

IIRC JOC's goto load for his .270's was 59 grains of 4831 behind a 130.

You guys realize that the .277 bullet was really meant for the Weatherby case, don't you?? Now that's where the PhD in ballistic gack begins!!

This is what I don't understand about the SA guys.
The only affordable factory SA with a mag box that is 3.12" is the M70.
All the others are below 3"
To seat long bullets out of the powder column you need the 3.12" box and if you have a 3.12" box why not go the extra .25" and run a LA?
I can always load my LA cartridges down to SA cartridge levels but the inverse is not possible.
Plus I can always rebarrel my LA to a SA round but not the inverse.
I'm glad they sell SA's for those who like them for whatever reason but for me, not so much.

BTW, the .284 is close but it still can't run with a .270 Winchester.

How does that 110 accubond hold together for you? I bought some for my .270 win to load slow for my girlfriend but she likes .243 better so im thinking bout rollin em up hot and shootin hogs with em.

I like the .277 calibers so well, I own 2 rifles chambered for the .270 Win and 1 chambered for .270 Weatherby Mag. All 3 rifles shot a MOA or better after a little work.
For southern Whitetails I like 130 gr Hornady SP's bullets running close to 3100 fps.
For everything else, I like 150 gr Partitions running a little over 2800 fps.
My longest shot with a .270 Win was 398 yards. It was a one shot kill. The deer stumbled about 40 yards downhill.
Of the dozen or so deer that I've shot most died within a few feet of where they stood. And very few need a second shot.
I only killed 2 elk with a .270 Win. Both were within 300-350 yards, one with 2 or 3 steps after being shot, the other went a about 40 yards and was shot twice.
Can a 7-08 come close to this? No it cannot.

Looks like the hijack of the thread is over for now. Good!!! As for me I would take the .270. I do as little in mm as I can.

No hogs here, but lots of guys at 68com have reported using them with great results on piggies. I just use them on deer or the occasional varmint. They most always pass through at these velocities. I'd say use them.

Gun gack is the reason I find firearms so exciting.

I'd be pretty bored if we had 1 handgun/cartridge, 1 rifle/cartridge, and 1 scope/sight.

Really glad we can argue over 100 different items which can all get the job done.

My current Deer hunting combo is almost exactly what is listed in the Topic.But....
Mine is my very first 7mm-08 ever a Ruger RSI stainless with 18 1/2 in. barrel shooting Remington 140 gr.
Cor lokts and my Weatherby Mark V stainless lt. wt. 270 Wby mag
with 26 in. barrel shooting Weatherby 130gr. Hornady Interlocks.
at about 3400 fps.
7mm-08 140gr. from 18 1/2in.barrel ?????
I know and trust my 270 Wby from using it for several years.
I like the handiness of the RSI but not really thrilled with the
7mm-08 so far.Maybe if I can whack something other than paper with it that might change.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 7-08. I just happen to have started hunting with a 270 and that's what I primarily use today.

OM1942, Did JOC shill for Winchester and the .270? You better believe he did. And was paid handsomely for it. The country was awash with milsup '03s in 30-06. Few people were interested in paying $75.00-$90.00 for a '06 when they could get a milsup '03 for @ $5.00 and then bubba-ize it. Think about it.

I could explain it much further and in greater dept but not having JOC's background as an English teacher, I don't have words small enough, simple enough to explain it so you would understand. But, my expert opinion is you need to drop the subject. Maybe go shoot your "12 bore", old chap. Pip, pip and all those other bogus pretensions.

BTW, I have read every word that JOC has written.

"Brat pack"??? I don't understand. Do you mean that I am not the only one in here that perceives you as a slow-witted blow- hard?

The only downside or difference I have ever seen with the 270/7-08 is when I grab the wrong box of shells for the rifle that is in the truck.(Grin). Shot a deer with each one this January, 1 with the 708- 120 Nosler BT at 300 and another with the 270- 130 Hornady interbond at 175, both were bang flop Russ
